I decided to make my WR450 a licensed dual sport vechicle in Arizona. I have a home there so why not. One of the challanges was making a decent plate holder that is rugged. I tried a lot of store bought types but I ride really hard and most of them were too expensive, the rear wheel would hit the bottom, easy to crash off, etc.
Since the state is Arizona, I decided to make my own by using a section of 4x4 vinyl post hole cover material you can get at any lumber yard and probably trashed because it was bigger then the post you were using it on. I cut out a right angle piece and then heated the joint so it could easily be bent to a 45 degree angle. I then contoured the top part to bolt under my fender and drilled out the holes for the plate. That was it.
I kept the lighting on the back of the WR because by adding 1 line from a brake light switch I now had lights and brake light. How did I get the plate light you ask. What I did was order 2 screw in plate holder/led lights for the top of the plate and wire them to the bike lights. In Arizona all you need is the plate and brake light. I now have the best of both and it is very rugged and almost 100% crash proof unlike after market typical screw in bulb types. Contact me for the info on the LED company.
