whats the AIS? when purchased in australia, what needs to be done to derestrict it COMPLETELY, i have heard of throttle stop?, grey wire?, and now, AIS?
will these be removed by the dealer? if not, are they easy to do, is there a sticky on TT that explains what they are and how to remove them yourself? thanks

AIS = Air Injection System

I don't know what Australian bike have or don't have.

If you have plumbing that routes air from the airbox boot to a metal thingy, and plumbing from the metal thingy piping the air to the cylinder head, then your bike has the AIS.
It injects air into the exhaust.
It adds parts you don't need and that get in your way working on the bike.
It's only there to pass required EPA regulations in order to build the bike.
Adds nothing to performance.
Most guys remove it when doing the other mods to uncork the bike.

I'm pretty certain WR-450F uncorking mods info is on this forum.

I think this thread is actually about guys daydreaming/wishing/hoping/wondering if Yamaha Motor Co. will come out with a 450cc version of the WR-250R dual-purpose bike.

Absolutely not! The WR250R DP is a PIG. A 450 version would be a pregnant sow.

Something along the lines of the KTM EXCs is what I would be dreaming about.

I know the feeling.

I'm glad to hear that most don't seem to like the street wr. After riding one that was it I was going with an older wr 450 that had already been plated. I was very dissapointed I thought all the wr's were like that but apparently only the factory streeted wr from what I read here. The dealer made it sound like it was a street legal wr not a ttr which it felt like.

I love the power & handling of my 08 WR450F, but it needs a few refinements to be more street-worthy. Maybe the new ones with FI get better gas milage and run smoother at 60+ mph, or can be "remapped" to for it?

I'm running non-DOT knobbies. Maybe dual sport tires would help it's street manners too? I doubt I'll ever bother mounting them myself though, since the WR has been such a wonderful hillclimbing beast for me. I can live with a bit of twitchiness on the pavement.

As everyone's said "she needs a 6th gear", period. Hopefully with FI & a 6th gear the gas milage would improve. Oh yeah, & it needs a larger fuel tank.
