I picked up my new 250f on sunday and went to ride. I had trouble getting it started, and when it did start it would choke off almost immediatly. We adjusted the idle screw(i think thats what its called) and got it to run finally. Is that normal and is there a factory setting for that idle screw. I didnt find anything in manual. Any help appreciated.

Mine did the same thing. Evidently they don't set the idle speed screw very well at the factory.

Mine was hard to start in the beginning also, especially when it was cold. It's better now. Congratulations with a new bike.

The dealer should have checked that. When the bike is cold pull out the choke and blip the throtle three times to charge the cylinder. If it dose not want to start hold the throttle wide open hold the hot start lever in and kick the bike through about eight times to clear the cylinder and try again to start the bike. This procedure is also helpful if you drop the bike and it will not start.

Try this.
(Do Not Give It Gas!) :)
Pull choke,Pull Hot start, Even when it's cold out.
With one fluid motion kick half way down then one full swing down. Kinda like pre-primeing your kick. 1st kick or 2 every time, even when cold.
Here's another thing too. When hot or cold, try just kicking really slowly down(A real slow 1001,1002 second count type kick)
After a few kicks (5 or so) it will start.
Dont try to kick so hard,,You dont need to.(Trust Me).
I dont kick hard at all.The way your doing it is ,,Your hitting your kickstarter against your peg by kicking so hard.
Eventually it'll get ruined.
Do the half-kick then one full kick in one fluid motion.
When its warm or when you crash it'll start sometimes by not even kicking all the way down.
Alot of people at the track just start kicking away,,
Not Me,, One kick will do ya :D
Turn your idle alittle up,and go ride.

I had to bump start mine 1st time, then once the idle had been set it is fine, they bump start very easily.
