That all depends on if you ride in places where the 96db sound rating in enforced. If that's the case, what I did is went to the FMF Q series pipe (tested with tail pipe only is 96.7db). It has better low/mid range power than the DRD and still tops out. When I ride at the tracks (closed course) I run the stock pipe which still has better low/mid range power over the DRD.

Where is the 96dB rule in effect? Does it include local AMA motocross events?

Well, here in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia, we are wrestling with the 96 db rule. I went riding this last Sunday up at Georgetown with some of my buddies. One in particular has a very nice CRF450 with the FMF Q series. The ranger had him go over and did a sound check. The FMF pipe failed miserably. It measured at 100 db. The ranger stood there and calibrated the sound meter, and did it again. It still came out at 100. Luckily he let him ride it. He may not be so lucky next time. I wanted to have mine checked, but he wouldn't do a "Courtesy check". I take this to mean my bike didn't sound loud enough to warrant a check. Hopefully that is the case. I'm racing at Carnegie this weekend, so maybe they'll check them this weekend, and let us know where we stand.

Hey Jeff, what do you think about the T-4 system? How much louder is it that a stock YZ system? Power? MXA did a test on the Ti-4 system in the April issue and it was 2hp more than stock, but they said nothing of the sound output. Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks.

I had a procircuit exhaust. I do not recommend it for offroad use due to how loud it is. It was obnoxious. I have to admit I loved it but it's time for us to be a little more responsible in regards to sound. Oh yeah if you do strictly mx I would get it. I would look into the FMF Q and White bros E2 or other systems. Dirtbike did a test in the last issue and both the White bros e series and Big gun were able to meet the 96 db with quiet cores. It sucks to say but remember less sound = more ground.

I can attest to that. I own BIG_FAT_ANDSLOW's old T4 and that puppy is loud!! I repacked it and it helped some.I only ride private MX tracks so I don't mind and they are not close to anyone that would. Now if this damn snow and rain would stop I could start dialing in the jetting :)
