I'm interested in how you made that street legal, in Wisconsin it's impossible, I thought CA was tougher. Mike

There are two possibilities as to how it may have been plated in California:

  • It was plated some years ago, and has been renewed since then.
  • It was plated in another state, and then transferred here.

Today, it would not be possible at all.

How is it street legal when it looks like that? I know only the registraition is really the only thing that has to say street legal. But how the previous owner got it legal looking like that is a mystery. He must have a buddy that is a sherrif/ cop.
But anyway good luck with the project, should be a nice ride!

Supposedly, there's an "after" picture, I assume it looks different.

very much so, i took off all of the old blinkers, plate, etc, etc. Its all going to new.

The previouse owner got it street legal back in 02 when it was new. I dont know how he did it, but i went to DMV to register it in my name there was no problem.

Yeah i should be getting my convertion kit the middle of this week.

How often do you change the oil on a street legal YZ?

I would imagine it would be in the neighborhood of 300 miles, being that it only holds a quart.

Will it hold upto alot of 55-65 mph running?

Right now im customizing the air box, one of the things i got my self into. Cant wait for the out come.

The little holes are for rivets to hold the two plastic sidings together.

Can you give some details on the license plate mount? I've drilled 2 holes in mine and mounted it using the screws that hold the airbox. But this looks nicer.

There is two indentations on the rear fender to were the plate fits perfectly, so I drilled holes in the plate then matched it up on the indents of the fender then drilled those and popped riveted it in. Like a glove, plus you really visible when you behind it.

As for the air box I striped down the whole thing down and whole sawed the holes. When I did drill the wholes I used blue painters tape so I can draw a rough sketch of what I wanted and so it’s a smoother finished.

I have a bench grinder with a buffing wheel that works wonders. But first I wet sanded the exhaust before buffing to get all the dirt off.
