Freinds tell me I should change the fork oil after I break it in. Do you'all agree?

I was looking through the owners manual and they say use Yamaha "01" oil. I called up the dealer this stuff is like $22 a liter? Is that the stuff I should go w/? Is that the stuff I should go w/? I like the suspension the way it is now.

Should I just change the fluid or should I clean it out w/ something first?

Thanks for any help.

it wouldnt hurt anything to change it initially after break in. Who knows what the level is from the factory. I have always used BelRay suspension fluid. There are different weights that you should experiment with. Alot depends on your weight, woods or MX, and how you like the front end to feel. I ride woods and like my forks "cadillac style soft" so i use 7wt oil. I really like Redline fork oil, but its to expensive for my Busch budget.

You can use Golden Spectro Cartridge Fork Fluid 85/150 - it's about $10 a quart.

Stay away from oils that only list the SAE weight (ie 5wt) - that scale is too broad. You need an 85/150 for KYB forks. Your shock requires a higher viscocity index, like the 85/400 Spectro SPL suspension fluid. I use this in both the fork & shock.

I replaced the fork oil in my 03 yz 250f last night. it was way dirty after only 12 hours on the bike. I put in KYB Enzo "01" fork oil.

Good Luck
