Does anyone make an anodized rear sprocket? I need a new sprocket, but I don't recall seeing colored sprockets.

Any ideas?

I think that that would be cool. I am going for ALL blue on my bike.

Too bad I don't know where to get colored sprockets though.

You could just get it powder coated which I know works on street bikes but I dont know how long it will last on dirt bikes. Afam also makes rears in black.

wrooster,

Cool link. :) but looks like a lot of work to me. You can get a lot of riding done while you color your parts. Is this a side business for you? If so, what does it cost to have this done?

oldmanrookie,

actually the idea of home anodizing came up at the lunch table one day (you can tell i work at an engineering company). a few of the ChemEng's told the Rest of Us that you could actually anodize aluminum with common household equipment. which surprised me, and hence got me all interested to see what it would take. yeah, ok, i have a propeller on my head too. a few minutes of google-ing and i found the link above. the process and equipment in the link is used by a guy that makes aftermarket focusing pedastals for small telescopes. in other words you can buy the focusers he makes to improve tracking stability or otherwise add focus tracking features to your stock telescope. we're talking 4-10" schmidt-cassegrains here, the US$500 to US$2500 variety.

anyway i was quite impressed with what this guy is doing in his basement -- obviously he is quite proud of his setup and it probably saves him loads of money compared to getting the anodizing done "outside". plus, he can customize the process and colors at will. e.g., if you want a purple focuser he could make one in a few hours. i've been meaning to send him some email and ask if he'll do small jobs.

ps the main webpage is here --> http://www.focuser.com/

I have just started(trying) anodising stuff off my, the main problem i came across is the fact that some of the aluminium parts on the bike have impurities, so you need some dangerious stuff to disolve them, a 12V power supply won't be enough either, but i have just got a large power supply so i should be in business soon :D I got a piece of sprocket done red(I know, I know, it should have been blue but i didn't have that colour dye!!!) - there is good aluminium on sprockets. I'll post some pictures when i get it working... :)
