Drive side wheel bearing loose

I was changing my rear tire today and the drive side wheel bearing became loose to the point of the center spacer moving around. The oil seal on that side had become stuck to the dust seal. So I check the wheel bearing and it will almost come out of the hub, it catches near the end. So I tapped it back into it's spot, put the oil seal back and replaced the dust cover. My question is wether or not the pocket that the bearing is supposed to sit in is worn out as I'm accustomed to it being a very tight fit? Thanks for your help.
