Anyone put a '03 WR cam in their '01 or '02 WR?
I still prefer WR timing.

Mitch,

I put the 03 YZ E-cam in my 02 WR and timed it WR. It runs just the same. I have determined that it kicks a little harder than with YZ timing because of the location of the decompression bump. It's still easy to kick (no drill).

The WR timing runs and is exactly like my WR cam. I even degreed the cam to check. If you got the WR cam you would get the full benefit of easy kicking, and the timing would be the same. If you get the YZ cam you could go either way with slightly harder kick with WR timing.

As far as I can tell, you cannot time the '03 WR cam to YZ spec because the decompression bump is in the wrong place. Some have tried and wouldn't start.

You have tried both timings on your '01? What did you notice as a difference, and what kind of exhaust or other mods did you have? I'm trying to decide whether to time mine as a YZ or get the '03 cam.

Thanks for any input,
Toby

I did not try YZ timing but have tried some YZ's out. I like YZ timing on the MX track but prefer my WR in the woods over the YZ's I rode. I guess I should wait for a '03 WR owner to change cams and buy their WR cam.

Food for thought Mitch.
There are other things to consider in that comparison, not just the cam timing. The WR has wide ratio gears, heavier fly wheel and more weight to carry around. All of which can add to more tractable feel of the WR. You really can't make a FAIR comparison until you've tried BOTH cam timings in your bike.

Mitch,
I also prefer the WR timing for the trails. YZ timing gave me a lot bigger hit getting out of corners though. I have a 2003 WR E-cam on order. Occording to my local Y-shop it doesn't show that its back ordered any more and should be showing up soon. Once I receive it, I will post the Part Number. :)

I guess I should try it once. I just like being able to twist it wide open out of a corner in the woods and don't have to wonder if it is going to kick out like my 2 strokes used to.
