Should I spend my money on knee braces or have my suspension set up. I am riding a 02 yz250f in mx beginnner/intermediate, and I weigh 180. Which would you recommend and if knee braces, should I buy evs web or asterisk. thanks for the help.

Protect yourself first. You will ride many years longer. The stock suspenders are really good. spend some time adjusting them.

I have a set of Asterisk braces. I love them. The new EVS Web ones look pretty sweet too. One of my buddies just got a CTI2. Now that is trick. Makes the EVS, and the Asterisk look like a torture device.
That being said, I still love my Asterisk braces. I only spent $550.00, the CTI was like $1,200.00 for one side.
I had to pay for mine, his insurance picked the CTI up.
Get the braces, Your knees will thank you later.

yz250fflyer,
you can always get a suspension job done in the future.
but new knees are really hard to come by, however.
so my position is pretty obvious.

Buy knee braces and tweak your suspension rather than your knees! I hurt my knee wearing an EVS RS7 brace and I did not do anything really bad either--so spend more and get a good one. I ended up with the the Donjoy Armor Action braces that also work well skiing and bicycle riding. The knee pad/shin guards are removable, the straps are all replaceable, the stops are adjustable and all is washable. They cause no pain or blisters like the EVS and I can wear them all day on a 14 hour ski patrol shift with only a few adjustments now and then. I got mine through an ortho guy in Kalamazoo for around $700 for a pair and they are also available on the internet.
After setting your sag for about 100mm, try stock settings on your suspension, then go in about 2 clicks (stiffer) on compression for your weight. Do only one thing at a time. If anything, you likely only may need a spring change and those are inexpensive. Man--I wish I weighed 180 again!

One other comment. Flip a coin. When the coin leaves your fingers, pay attention to your gut. It well tell you which side of the coin you want to come up. That my friend will be what YOU want to do.
But if you want to be practical, safe, pay attention to the voices of experience.....looks like it is Heads, the Knee braces win.

Take it from someone who learned the hard way.
Woods crash resulting in ACL complete tear some years ago. Don't know if a brace would have saved me, but it sure couldn't have hurt . 18 months physically off
of a bike and nearly 3 years mentally. Not something I
want to go through again. Nearly 10 years later, I can still tell when its going to rain form the Ti in my knee.
I have an insurance comped Cti2 for the bionic side and I picked up a Cti Edge for the good side. Can't tell the difference in fit. I did'nt mind paying the $550 for the
Edge after my experience. I won't even get on a bike without them any more. You can get multiple sets of Ohlins
suspensions in the $$ you'll save in potential medical bills.
Good Luck

Braces, I just got my CTi's as well and they do make you feel protected. Hard to use your susp. mods if you cant ride. Yes, it sucks to pay out the $$$ but sooner or later you'll be glad you did.

thanks for the replies I think I will probably get the asterisk since most pros use them they are probably better than the web braces.

Knees FIRST!!!!
As for suspension - stockers are really good just play with the susupension settings and fork oil height, you'll be truly amazed at what 10mm of fork oil height either way can do for your suspension and confidence. Do check your oil heights and if they are the same for each fork if you havent already.
