I installed my 03 cam yesterday, but haven't tried it out yet. Did any of you guys put new cam cap bolts in when you installed yours? I was just wondering if I should have done that also. One of my buddies told me that those bolts might have stretched. Is there any truth to this?

The bolts will be fine. This is not a high torque situation. Just make sure you use a good quality torque wrench and don't get them too tight. I made that mistake once....

The bolt are torqued to 7.2 lbs/ft. I can't imagine that would over stress them. Use a 1/4" torque wrench to be safe.

Steel doesn't stretch. Ask your buddy what he'd been smoking. :)

talk about smokin something funny.

i'll wager my bike against anything you wanna put up. YOU ARE FLAT OUT WRONG!
steel can and will stretch. i guess you've never seen how to REALLY measure the proper torque on a connecting rod bolt in a serious motor. it is done with a micrometer to determine if the bolt had STRETCHED too much or not.

you haven't seen how a tensile strength test is done either have you?
they take a piece of "steel" that is T shapped on each end. one end is in a non-moveable clamp. the other end pulls on it till it breaks. from stretching too far!!! at that point, the value is measured.

somebody needs to get you a subscription Hot Rod mag.

sorry to come down so hard, but passing WRONG info is just WRONG!

I knew I'd get someone stressed out on that statement. You went for the bate SUnruh! :)

Of course steel stretches. That's how they manufacture pre-stressed structural concrete. But most bolts would snap off due to torque long before they would ever stretch. :D

And no, I don't need a subscription to Hot Rod. But I may need a prescription for some medicinal marijuana! :D
