After replacing my old 1992 DR350S with a Honda CRF450X back in 2006, my old DR just sat in a corner collecting dust. Many years ago I had Cycle Gear install their magic airbox and rejet it, along with some head work and an exhaust. It also has Progressive springs and a few other goodies so I figured why not turn it into a cheap street-tard. So for the price of a couple of wheels and tires I have a fun little back road bike. It only has a little over 4,000 miles on it and still runs strong. Anybody else on here do a cheap street-tard?

SWEET! I will probably soon buy an XR650L and throw some motard wheels on it.Then later I'll do full FMF exhaust, air filter, jet kit,and dyno tune.Should be fun.

Nice bike!

I run a 94 XR650L:

Cheap to maintain, crash proof, still beats most bikes on the twisties.

That's got to be the tidiest DR I have ever seen! They are such a good old machine! Nice XR too!

Thanks, but that bike has been a dirt only bike for twelve years and it took me a couple of weekends to get it cleaned up again. I'm waiting on four new rear brake rotor bolts to arrive before I can ride it.
This is what it used to look like:

It's a Baja off road design seat that came with the bike when I bought it used back in 1994 and is still holding up nicely. It's broader than stock, so you can ride most of the day with out any monkey butt. Plus it's made with a material that keeps you from sliding around on it. I have used a stock seat in the past but the Baja seat is by far the better of the two.

Now that looks like a sleeper right there. A 650 has enough power to easily get the job done. I have to work a lot harder to embarrass the full leather riders on my 350, but it is a lot of fun.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Taking an older dirt bike and bringing it back to life. I got new numbers for my bike today. I figured I needed something a little on the hooligan side for a street-tard.

Thanks High-Side, I like the look of your DR too! Very clean lines! :usa:

I've still got some mods to do to mine this spring, which include a Maier rear fender with a BD LED tail light and better looking/smaller carbon fiber signal lights.

I think yours looks classic just the way it is. I go to another SuperMoto site and some of the guys go way overboard on their bikes. They get them so fixed up you'd think they'd be worried about getting them dirty. I did change the front fender and cleaned it up a bit, but I kind of like the "you can see it was a dirt bike" look myself.

You've got a good point there.

I kinda like the look of the stock rear fender myself, and I think subconsciously that's what's been keeping me holding off on swapping it out ... but then again, I have gone kinda crazy on the front end already with the dual headlights and Buell bug screen.

I think it looks just right. A little bit of modern and a little bit of old school. And although the turn signals are not tiny, at least cars can see them.

That's a nice setup. The XR400's were great bikes. I'm only four bolts away from having mine road worthy.

Here's my version of a cheap conversion. Around $150 spent for 500 ninja tires/wheels/disks/sprocket. I can switch back to the OE wheels/tires in less than an hour.  Rides great!! Also street legal.

I'm not sure, I had Cycle Gear trick out the carburetor when they put on their Magic Airbox back in 1996, and I haven't done anything to it except ride it since. I also had some head work done and added a SuperTrapp exhaust and Progressive suspension. It sure runs strong and is a major blast to ride.
