Blew up procircuit ti 4 titanium system! HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I was riding my friends yz450f '04 today. Was not doing any thing stupid.. no wrecks no rediculous jumps.. Just messing around in a flat field, We rode all around the trails and hills today day. So I'm riding along in 4th about mid throttle and all the sudden I notice the tone of the bike starts changing so I pull in the clutch and rev it a little to see if its okay, Then I look down and the header is in the process of falling off the bike (engines at idle, clutchs pulled in) I quickly hit the kill switch and slowed the bike down. I ran back to grab the header and see what happien, at first I thought the bolts just came loose from the header mount and it had popped off. Well this happien...

The weld around the pipe failed, This exhaust has been on the bike ruffly 1 year. Bike has not been raced and has never been "crashed".

So I'm wondering, Does pro circuit offer any kind of warranty on there pipe welds failing?

Thanks all!

From their site:

Do you repair damaged exhaust?

At this time Pro Circuit only repairs 4-stroke exhaust systems. The only 2 stroke pipes that we repair will have to be covered under our warranty policy. If you have a 4-stroke exhaust that has been damaged and needs fixing you will need to contact our sales office at (951) 738-8050 and obtain a Return Authorization Number (RA#). Once we receive it, your exhaust will be inspected and we will determine what repairs or replacements you need, at which point we will contact you and let you know what the cost will be. Normal turn around time for repair is about 2 weeks.

So I'm the guy whose header he blew up and the exhaust has only been on the bike for maybe a year. If not fixable does anyone know if a stock header will fit with the muffler of the Ti-4 system? If not does anyone know which headers will and which one is the best?

well titanium tends to get fragile when it is heated, so iam guessing the bike was running lean(hotter exhaust) and just from normal vibration created by the bike and it decided to crack at the weld area of the pipe. And not to mention the hottest part of the pipe(right at the begining of the header).

i run a Pro Circuit Ti 4 slip on pipe with stock header. i would assume that the diamter of the stock header outlet would fit the Pro Circuit mid pipe inlet just fine and you are good to go.

try it out and see how it works.

I would try to return it. Thats a pretty poor looking weld. Hard to tell by the pic though.

It will not be repairable. Maybe if it was just a fracture running along the weld, but with those cracks headed down the pipe, it wouldnt be worth it.

If it's just a Ti-4 then the stock header should fit. If it is the Ti-4 low boy GP system then the stock header will not fit.

update: i have the GP system and nothing except the GP Ti header will fit so i guess im $h!t out of luck and going to have to spend the extra money so for anyone else out there who has the GP system do not try to replace the header with anything other than the GP header it will not work without modifications ?

Send it back. Pro Circuit has lots of money, they did just win a SX Championship. They will take one look at yours throw it in the scrap bin and send you out a brand new one.

Its not worth the headache for them and they wouldnt want that nice, new shiny 18 wheeler with Pro Circuit Kawasaki stamped all over it to end up looking bad in there customers eyes.

I talked to them a while ago and they told me to send it in and they would see if they could repair it. Sent it monday from ohio, havent heard anything yet. They aren't just going to replace it because I have no proof of purchase which is stupid because I bought the bike with the pipe on it already. But if they cant fix it they want me to pay for shipping back to my house or they will pitch it... ahh if only my last name was Reed o Stewart.. that would be too easy

They're going to attempt a repair with no proof that you were ever their customer (and you weren't). I'd think you'd be grateful they were willing to do that much.
