Thanks SheWolf, could not have said it better myself! Yes, pick the color of the guard that you want and order the center adapter part for a WRF from your favorite vendor and we can supply the center adapter and instructions you need to install this on your WR250R. I hope we can start shipping these out in a few weeks. Tenatively, these are going to be about $15ish shipped..I still need to find out what the initial batch will end up costing me, I think we are going to make 20 for a start, and go from there. These will be made on a CNC turning center at my work, not some part turned out by hand.

Sounds good vwsandman and please count me IN.

And thanks to you Shewolf for the explanation.

I will need to order one as well. I already have all the components (with the yellow guard) and will need the correct spacer. Thanks Sandman for helping out!

Update:

I hope to have a web page online soon that will allow you guys to order the adapter up. It will have instructions for installing this part. Instructions will also be included as well when you purchase the part. This WILL happen, so please be patient. In the mean time those that want to order the plastic guard of there choice of color, and the Acerbis adapter for the WRF can do so and have these parts waiting for the adapter when we start shipping them out.

I have found the store on this site to be pretty good. http://shop.thumpert...fault.asp?p=288

The #73-7126 black and blue guard is $20.66 USD
The Yamaha adapter (one part number) #73-6061 is $26.96

The #73-6061 is the part you need to purchase where ever you decide to get this from, although I think just about any Acerbis adapter is the same EXCEPT for the center part....but I have not proven this point so get the #73-6061 to be safe.

I hope this helps out. Thanks again for all the patience and support, sometimes my job ties me up (field service work) but rest assured, once these are in production and we start shipping, my better half will make sure that all the orders are filled and shipped on time even if I am not at home.

:p

Well check out my first attempt at a web page...let me know what you guys think, I (hopefully) will add the PayPal link as soon as these are ready to begin shipping. I want to make sure everything is in order before any one sends any money.

If any one knows of a better way to create and host a web site, please feel free to let me know...sorry I am a complete noobie at this sort of thing.

Thanks again for all the interest and patience. I hope to be able to start shipping these first week of May.

Looks fine to me. I would rather just mail a check then the PP thing so maybe make that an option as well?

Thanks Sandman!

I am still on the road for work, will be back home, May 7th, will be able to discuss manufacture with my co-conspirator at work...and with luck have the info posted up the week of May11th....sorry for the delay, we will get these out however. I think personal check, money order and cash will be the way to go for this, I looked into PayPal, and while I have never had a problem, many have, and what little money is to be made from making/shipping these, PayPal will absorb that right up...let's keep it simple I say and old school.....I do not want to accept any money until these are made, so please be patient. Thanks!

Ok, question.

Since I wheel swap almost every week, how difficult is it to mount/unmount the wheel with the acerbis guard in place?

I 'm tempted to go this route, but for simplicity sake, I might just want the yamaha unit. Has anyone got the yamaha unit installed for the sake of comparison? Or is there anything else out there aside from the acerbis/lightspeed/yamaha units?

(not an attempt to hijack.. :excuseme: )

No problem! The spacer we have made just replaces the OEM spacer and allows the Acerbis guard to mount on the right side. When you swap wheels, just slip your OEM spacer back in, I too have both wheel sets and this is easy peasy. Nothing harder than that.

Sandman Parts
Yamaha WR250R Acerbis Spider Evolution Front Disc Guard Mounting Adapter Installation Instructions:

To install your adapter you will need the following parts and tools:
-Sandman Parts Spacer
-Acerbis #73-6061 Disc Guard Mount Adapter (Purchase from the online store here at TT: http://shop.thumpert...fault.asp?p=288)
Posted Image
-Acerbis Spider Evolution Disc Guard in your choice of color (Purchase from the online store here at TT: http://shop.thumpert...fault.asp?p=288)

-Motorcycle lift with safety straps
-10mm wrench or socket
-22mm wrench or socket
-8mm wrench or socket
-3mm Allen wrench
-19mm socket
-36mm or equivalent socket or short piece of pipe
-Bench vise or Shop Press
-Torque wrench
-Clean rags or shop towels
-Lithium-soap-based grease

1) To begin, you will need to loosen the 22mm front axle nut. This is best done with the bike resting on the ground. Loosen but do not remove the nut. Next, loosen the four 10mm bolts that pinch the axle tight, two on each fork leg. See Fig1. (Note: Right and Left sides used in instructions are shown in Fig1)

2) Next, raise the bike on a suitable bike lift so that the front wheel is off the ground. Secure the bike to the lift so it does not fall off.
3) Next, remove the 22mm axle nut you loosened in step one, and push the axle out to the right fork while supporting the front wheel.
4) Now remove the stock left side axle spacer and save for later. Clean the seal area of any debris and add some grease if needed. See Fig2 and Fig3.

5) Remove your Acerbis #73-6061 Disc Guard Mount Adapter from the package and hang on to the included 8mm nuts and 3mm Allen flat head socket screws, you will need them to mount your plastic guard in a few minutes. What we need to do now is press out the stock center adapter from the Acerbis mount adapter. To do this you will need a bench vise and the 36mm socket and the 19mm socket. The stock adapter is held in with a spring clip and can only be popped out in one direction. With the adapter orientated so that you can read the Acerbis Logo, place the 36mm socket under the center of the adapter. Now place the 19mm socket over the adapter as shown in Fig4. Take this assembly to your bench vise or press and push the stock center part out. See Fig5. Make sure you are pushing the stock adapter out square to the mounting adapter. You should not need to apply great pressure to get the center part out. If you are, take everything out and verify you are not going in the wrong direction.

6) Clean up any burrs caused by pressing out the stock center section and discard the snap ring and old center spacer. See Fig6.

It should look like this when you are done:

7) Using the supplied hardware from Acerbis mount your plastic guard to the center adapter. Tighten the nuts securely using the 3mm Allen wrench and 8mm wrench or socket it should be orientated as shown in Fig7.

8) You are now ready to install your new Disc Guard on your WR250R. Insert the disc guard in to the wheel seal on the left side where you removed the OEM axle spacer. Place the axle back in to the right side fork leg and while supporting the front wheel push the axle through to the other side, making sure the brake disc is aligned correctly between both brake pads.
9) Replace the 22mm axle nut and hand tighten only. Orientate the disc guard as shown in Fig8. Check for proper wheel operation and lower the bike back to the ground.

10) Tighten and torque the right side 10mm axle pinch bolts to 23Nm (17ft-lb)
11) Tighten and torque the 22mm axle nut to 63Nm (46 ft-lb)
12) Tighten and torque the left side 10mm axle pinch bolts to 23Nm (17ft-lb)
13) Pump your front brake lever a few times to re-seat the brake pads.
14) Re-inspect your work and enjoy your new Front Disc Guard!

Let me try to get over my density... :smirk:

So the Evolution guard doesn't actually mount anywhere to the fork? What's to prevent it from spinning around the axle other than the fork? Is there a locknut somewhere?

From the worst case scenario department: Could anything theoretically hit the guard and make it spin where it would then interfere with the disc or the caliper? Because if could happen, it would happen to me... :excuseme:

Oh yeah and just to be picky has anyone seen the 'black' model? it looks like black with silver trim in the photo but can't tell.

If it hit something that hard it would just spin a little and stop on either the fork or the caliper, maybe 1/4" at most...in doing so I think it would help to dissipate some energy while it was doing it...nothing is going to protect everything. This is held in place by the clamping action of tightening the axle nut. I think you could then use one of the solid GYTR style guards that mount to the fork in addition to this...Your call...
