My YZ450 has started to backfire so I might have a small leak in the exhaust somewhere - what's the best way to locate the problem? Also - I've never pulled the exhaust before - what type of gaskets or ??? will be need to properly re-install - ensuring that there are no leaks. The bike is still running the original exhaust and I'm the second owner...

It might just be running lean on the pilot. It might also need to be repacked. if the stock gasket is there between the header and silencer you should be fine.
