Value of an 03 WR450 in good shape??

Recommended Posts

Been away for a while (from off road that is) but am looking to get back on a bike. I have been looking at WR426's and came upon an 03 WR450 today. The bike is clean but could use new plastic. Radiator shrouds are somewhat discolored and the front fender has a chunk missing. The owner hit a tree and busted the headlight assembly and front fender. He installed a number plate and threw a black acerbis fender on front that he had lying around. I'm kinda anal and would intall new fenders and radiator shrouds. I would also replace the headlight assembly. Tires look new and the chain and sprockets look good. The seller also had the front and rear springs replaced to match his weight which ironically is mine; 215.

Battery has enough juice to start her (to my surprise).

Seller is asking $2,400 which is KBB. What should I offer?

He did not have the bike retrofitted with 04 parts. He and I are both guessing his was one a the bikes not affected with the isue. He has never had an issue.

If I do buy it I would probably do it for piece of mind.

I don't think 2400 is too bad if its a nice bike, but i've seen them for $1800 with pipes in decent shape. I picked up my 04 last year for $3100...it had titanium fmf pipe, bigger footpegs, fluidyne radiators, aftermarket headlight, extra front/rear tire, and brake pads/synthetic oil extra. I was happy with my purchase and the bike has been rock solid. As to the aluminum ones being better...that is a preference. My buddy has a new 08 aluminum wr450 and the carb is a pain in the butt to access. He said if he could do it again he'd get a steel frame...good luck with what you decide.

That 2nd one looks like my old 04..........Only $1,800, damn good price for a nice looking ride. The one I found could look like that with all new plastic and graphics ?

I offered $2,100 for it. Now I'm kinda hoping he doesn't take me up on it.............

$2100 isn't a bad deal if the bike is in good shape. My plastics were scuffed when I got my bike. I new graphics kit for the tank shrouds, a new fender, and some krylon acrylic for the rear white side covers made it look like new again. Plastics are the easy part.

Mechanically she's sound, just cosmetics. Needs the plastics along with some frame paint. The tires, chain, sprockets and battery are all fairly new. New fork seals last fall and like I said earlier, she's dialed in to my weight already with heavier springs and revalved shocks ?

I'm just waiting to hear back from the guy. At this point with the shape of the economy I think he would be foolish to passup my offer. The pricing is only going to get better as this economy cuts deeper..........

I payed 2500 for my '03. I thought it was a fine deal, even without the 04 upgrade which is NOT cheap, it cost $255 through zinnotti motor. I guess it depends what part of the country you live in. I see alot of yz's but not so many wr's

Seller countered for $2,200. I'm going to sleep on it but will probably buy it. It's a straight, solid bike. If I wait for that super clean one to show up it never will or at much more $$ with my luck.

New plastic and I think she'll look really nice.

Id get it, especially since its already titled. I'm in Texas and its easy to title here but its still a pain in the ass and will cost you some $$$. $2200 for a solid street titled WR---good deal to me. I wish mine was that cheap. The registration would set you back close to $100---assuming you told them you paid next to nothing for it. Add on lights switches brake lights etc and thats another $250 if you do the wiring yourself....worth it bro for the price he wants.
