yz or wr?

Recommended Posts

ok i was going in to put a new timing chain in and bought the flywheel puller for my yz400. I opened up the side cover and removed the nut and went to put the puller and realized there wasnt any threads where i needed them for the puller. got to looking at it and i think the flywheel is a wr. Is my bike a wr? How can i tell? it dosnt have any lights and is only kickstart no e start so i fiured it was yz. No title with it obviously

Is the subframe steel or aluminum? That may be one way to tell, at least on the 426s not positive on the 400s. What size is the rear rim? 18=wr 19=yz stock. Check out the right front wheel spacer, is it an aluminum spacer or is it a black plastic odometer hookup/spacer? Or you could just check the vin....

Well you'd have to make sure it has all the proper wiring. Check to see if it has a voltage regulater bolted on the left side of the steering head (it's a small metal peice with fins and a couple wires coming out of it). And under the tank there is a connecter for the headlight coming out of the wire loom under right around where the carb is at. And there is also a couple wires for the tailight that are usually on top of the airbox. Then you would have to buy a headlight and a tailight if you want that. If it does not have these than you will have to get an aftermarket kit like baja designs or whoever else makes one.

It's hard to say without looking at it. You said it had the odo spacer, a kickstand, but it had a 19" rear. If it has the lighting stuff I mentioned above, and the kickstand is not something welded on or aftermarket I would say that it's a wr. You said it also has a wr flywheel so that makes it more likely that it is a wr. Find out how you can check with the vin number, maybe search this site for info. on that because I don't know.
