2009 WR450F Suspension....How much????

Recommended Posts

If I decide to just go with a YZF suspension, how much should

I expect to get from my 2009 WR450F suspension, both front

forks and rear shock? Probably just put it on ebay.

Any ideas on how much?

it all depends on the buyer and the time...remember your ditching it for yz stuff so don't expect to get what you pay for the yz stuff because the person buying it could easily pass yours up for yz suspension as well ?

in all honesty i dont get what the hype is on the yz suspension :ride:

Truth is, Im not really sure either.....?

I came home today and made some suspension adjustements

after having ridden it for 40 miles or so. I know the suspension

will continue to break in, but my sag numbers look pretty good

to me. So even at 205lbs, Im still not clear on why everyone

says I need stiffer springs.

Im still looking into the whole thing.

It goes both ways, I've seen people on the yz forums that want a wr suspension for it's "plushness", usually older people outside of california that ride their yz's in the woods.

:ride: The hype is that it's a damn good suspension, that's what the hype is. But I hear that you're a big boy, so no matter which suspension you have, you'd have to mod it. However, for us <200lb riders, the yz stuff works great on the trails, and it's great on jumps as well.

BTW....Here are my current Sag Settings after todays adjustment.

Checked two different times, by two different people.

24.25" (615.95mm) Unloaded

20.25" (514.35mm) Rider (ME ? ) Loaded and standing on pegs

=

101.6 mm Race Sag

24.25" (615.95mm) Unloaded

23.25" (590.55mm) Bike on its own weight

=

25.4mm Free/Static Sag

So from what I have gathered, that should be just about right.

I guess the big question will be if the spring continues to "soften"

during break in making these measurements much different.

Also, from what I have read the YZ suspension is superior, but

I think for my riding ability right now, a well adjusted WR suspension

will probably get the job done. Ill probably regret not buying

the set that has been offered to me at a VERY good price, but

Im still going to wait and see how I feel about the WR setup

after a bit of riding. Plus the sag hasnt been checked on the

forks, so that would probably be the biggest gain by going to YZ

forks. Im not real sure how to check that, and I might not want

to know what I find out.....:ride:

Because WR forks are junk if you ride over a novice level.

+1...... furthermore, if your 205 and don't think you need stiffer springs - you aren't riding hard enuf:doh: (just funnin' with ya!)

To each is own but after racing offroad with WR's for 4 years I can say with complete confidence the WR forks are not comparable to YZ for competition.

Back on topic... I'd think the market would dictate they are worth 75% of what a good YZ set of forks would be worth... plenty of people out there cracking the bottom cap etc... and need a deal on a fork or two.

i have to disagree...

my sponsor precision concepts sprung and valved my 08 and i have no problems bombing 80+ mph through the desert, hitting whoops at speed, dual sporting, single tracking or even racing...

i wouldnt say im a pro but i am not a novice either (i can hold my own) and i have no complaints about my suspension.

heck i ride with pro desert racers (baja guys) and they have nothing but complements about the suspension work precision concepts did.

Well, no doubt a set of properly modded WR forks will be much better than stock, specially when the WR forks are way off for your weight to begin with. But what do you think would happen if you had a set of yz forks modded by a good suspension tuner specifically for YOU? Let me put it this way: What would be better? A new mustang GT with $20K in mods, or a new corvette with $20k in mods? Both would be awesome, but obviously one would still be ahead of the other.

if one was not sponsored and under 200 lbs this would be the cheaper way to go i agree ?

Yup, you're right on the money about that. I'm poor, not sponsored weekend recreational rider. My setup works great for me, but it might not work for others. If I were sponsored I'd probably still go with the yz setup.

This place will ruin your wallet!!? I was happy with my used TTR250 when I found this site. Now I'm loaded with a 2007 WR450 and an 08 YZ450, both bought new within 6 months of each other, and quite a lot of $ in mods.:ride: That's what this site will do to you.:moon:
