I am rebuilding the rear shock on my 2004 YZ450F.

What oil do I use in the shock ?

Thanks

My top recommendation is 215.VM2.K5 from Smart Performance.

If you want to use something more conventional, the next best is probably Amsoil Shock Therapy. Maxima Light Shock oil is OK, too.

Local suspension shop used 5W Maxima to rebuild my shock, so far works well and no problems. I think this is the weight of the stock oil, but not sure since I can't find this info in the manual and my shock was setup for my weight, riding style, etc.
I think if you want the shock to perform the same, would be important to find out what was in it before since altering the oil weight will effect the performance. Hope this helps.

It does, but not as much as you may think.
