I am going to do the same thing at some point. I was thinking about using a double pole switch to disable both sides. Using a single pole you might have to experiment which side works better. Not sure if a signal to ground with the power off will work 100%. For sure, disconnecting power has to work, just may not be 100% .

I wired an on/off switch inline on the TPS yellow wire on both of my current bikes. To tell the truth, I don't notice very much difference either on or off. With the TPS switched off, the engine response seems to be a little less 'abrupt' which helps in technical terrain.

I think single pole should work as long as the CDI doesnt mind. I would not think the ground should be a problem. What else would be nice is to have some proper connecters but Yamaha doesnt sell them. hows the weather down there Iam looking out the window at almost 3 ft of snow it sucks

Scroll down about half way on this page:

I think MaxPower has the only WR that does not do the 'stutter'. No amount of jetting changes improved mine. James Dean has done exhaustive work too in an attepmt to 'jet away' this to no avail. Using an oscilliscope, the erratic ignition pulses were recorded. A Vortex CDI was installed and even with it, on certain engine maps, the stutter remained. On one map, the stutter went away. Disconnecting the TPS (vis a switch) will not make go entirely way but improves it somewhat. The stutter is never noticed off road, only on road at steady throttle.

I am going to go with a switch because I would never get the jetting perfect. I live at 3000ft elevation and ride up to 7000ft and down to sea level, and if the switch will give me some improvment on the long and straight roads thats better than none. Thank you both for your input.

i confirm what william1 is saying

but i disagree with the "never notice it on dirt" tho

dunno bout you but it really screws with balances point wheelies?

I really never 'ride' wheelies off road. I do them to cross logs and streams but I have to constantly vary the throttle due to the uneveness of the terrain. To be 100% honest, yes, I have noticed the stutter off road, but so infrequently that is not the 'bee in the bonnet' that it is when on road.

One thing I'll be curious about is the CDI's 'response' to dealing with the TPS being connected and disconnected during operation.

Been searching for a switch I like, found none yet. I want to replace the OEM start button with a combo unit that has the start and an on/off switch. Has to be small enough to be able to fit under the brake lever. I have a few other brand OEM switches around, have to get around to doing a test fit. Another concern is switch width. Most OEM witch units are excessively wide. K&S does not seem to have exactly what I want.

I don't ride on the road often, but when I do, the stutter/hesitation at 50-60 mph is really annoying. I added a switch for the grey wire, but to be honest I do not use it very often. I would hate to add another swtich for the TPS, but if the results are favorable, I might do it. My bike is jetted well, so that has not helped the stutter. Please keep us all posted. Thanks.

Yes please do when you have to go through the pits at 10mph, that requires steady throttle, very annoying.

and when you do you sound like a total mechanical noob when u splutter!!!

i know that feeling exactly

people give you that "*** is wrong with his bike" look

so embarassing?

There seems to be another way to go other than putting a switch on the TPS and that is to spend 500.00 us plus tax and shipping and buy a Vortex CDI and it is suppose to eliminate the problem. Not &$@)^!+$# Likely.?:ride:

And I think thats with only one or two of the various mapping selections... someone had a pic of a switch they put in their airbox... I can remember if it was for the TPS or the grey wire but it looked trick and was out of the way. It was posted in this forum...

I take delivery of a plated 07' next week and I will definitely be looking into switching the TPS... I am very familiar with the stutter on my non-plated 07' and do not want to deal with it. I really don't dual sport but will be doing longer loops with FS roads chucked in:busted:
