YZ450F Acceptable Turning Now

Hey guys...

I just about gave up on this YZ450F ever turning worth a dang. Listen, I've faithfully owned YZ's/YZF's for the last ten years and they have never been great turning bikes. Not really bad...just not really great. Anyway, this 450 has turned like a runaway freight train. Until recently that is.

I put the forks all the way up in the clamps (as far as they would go) and set 102mm of race sag. I should mention that I ride only in sand. No hard pack so I can't speak for that. This baby really is excellent now. I love it!

I should mention that I also tightened my steering stem bearing a bit more than it should be to act as a type of steering damper.

Not an RMZ yet but light years better than it was!!! All I can say is wow did I ever finally have an all around great time. I hope this can work for some of you too.

I'm running a similar set-up and found it to be the best, BUT - be careful with how high your forks are in the clamps. If they are all the way up there is good chance that if you bottom your forks the front wheel will get compressed into the bottom of the front fender, which could be catestrophic. Just make sure that the measurement from the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender is greater than the travel of the fork (11.8" I believe).
