Any ideas on the best way to get these crankthreads cleaned up? The crank nut came off fine, but doesn't want to go back on. Would a standard machine shop be able to fix this? Sears has a re threader for 50 bucks. Would a regular tap and die be as good? Thanks for any help and suggestions.

it looks like some one beat the hell outa the crank with a hammer. My advice to you is get a thread file and try to clean up that end then. Run a thread cleaner down it. I dont like dies for cleaning up threads because if it gets off just a little it well cut new ones. Try a thread file first and see if it helps you.

one more thing to help you when you go to fix it remeber its metric and your manual has the size in it.
