Well, I think Im going to take the plunge and step off
the WR250R, and buy a WR450F. I just havent been
convinced the WRR was the right bike for me. I dont
ride on the street anyway. I ride single track trails only.

So I want to know if 6770 OTD is a decent price for an 09 WR450F.

I think it sounds fair, but thought some of you might
have some input.

I really hope this is the right move. I am a bit concerned about
the power difference in the two bikes, and the long day
on the trails with potential vibration on the WR450. Im fairly
new to dirt biking, so I just dont want a bike that has
unpredictable power that may "suprise" me. I know
the WRR has no vibration and is comfortable to ride. My
issue with the WRR is the general lack of power, and the
EFI on the trails causes some throttle jerkyness I dont like.
Ive always been partial to EFI, but not sure I like it on a
trails bike.

Anyway, thanks for any info. I just dont want to spend
this much more money and not be happy with the bike.

Might, and probably was, with manufacturers rebates though. And as
of right now, Yami isnt offering any for the 09 models. At least not that
I know of. Also, I cant find an 08 here locally. Probably a bit late for
that.

I paid $6,051 (including 7.75% California sales tax, $50 license and $? for document prep) for a new 2008 WR450F in October. Might be tough to find a leftover 2008 at this time. Remember, the only difference between a 2008 and 2009 WR450F is "bold new graphics". I would deal a little harder, motorcycles are not exactly flying out of the showrooms these days.

Yeah, I hear ya. I wish I could find an 08. I know the cost would
be significantly lower. In fact, the same dealer has 2 KX450 for
6100. Not too bad a price there, but they are trying to boot the 08
models. This dealer, which I have dealt with on 4 other bikes to
date, says his cost on the WR450F is 6471. Does this sound about
right to anyone?

In WA state that would be a good price, not a real deal but a good price... If it were me, I would look for a used low mile 07' since there are no real changes between 07' and 09'. They are out there, atleast in the NW where guys buy them and decide they are too fast or don't just ride them... usually free mods are done and decent hard parts bolted on, all for a much lower price... just my $.02:ride:

Don't forget to look on Craiglist. About 2 months ago I found an 07 WR450 for $4700.00

Just another data point for you... I bought an 07 WR450 off craigslist for $3700. It was almost brand new. It was a divorce sale so the guy was desperate.

BTW, try zaptxt.com to monitor craigslist. If I hadn't used it I would have never seen this deal.

Found an 08 WR250F with 5 miles on it, yes 5, for 4500.
It has had all mods done including a yz cam. Not sure I like
the cam change though. Also havent made up my mind
completely between a 250 or 450.

I ride at 9000 feet. A 250 won't pull it's own weight here. I'm not sure about at sea level but I've never heard of anyone stepping down because the 450 was too much power or too heavy. I highly recommend a 450

Don't worry about the power being too much. It's a strong motor but you can control that with your right wrist. The 250's just don't have enough grunt.

I bought an '06 last month. Love it! Best dirtbike I've owned. Better than my old KTM 300EXC.
