This is a shameless plug for a new application about to hit the market, developed by two friends of mine. I was a beta-tester of this product and loved it. I've shown it around the track to friends of mine, who are equally impressed.

The problem is that curing suspension problems is difficult. There are many different problems that can occur and many different possible cures to each problem. Then when you cure one problem, you might create another. All of this is very difficult to remember and do in the right sequence, unless you are a suspension expert and have been doing this for years. For those of us who want to make adjustments occasionally, due to changing track conditions or whatever, we might forget what the proper corrective actions are.

OK -- So my friends (a husband-and-wife team who have been motocrossers for 25 years) have developed the Personal Suspension Assistant. It is software that runs on a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) like a Palm or Sony, or others. They chose to put the software on a PDA so you can easily carry it with you and get immediate feedback while at the track.

Please check it out. Word-of-mouth from satisfied customers is the best way they can market this.

Here's a quick picture of the PSA. A Picture of the PSA

They will start marketing it next week.

I just talked to one of the co-owners of ResultOne. She said they were getting quite a bit of hits of their website today.

They had originally planned to wait until after the public release at a Colorado rider's association banquet this weekend to let their website go "live" for purchases, but due to the number of hits, they opened it up for sales a few minutes ago.

So, if you are interested, head on back to

www.ResultOne.com

These are friends, and I was a beta tester, so I am admittedly biased. But I do think it's a great product.

Hey, some of us are geeks who have a Palm. Do you know if they'll release this without buying the Sony Clie?

Yes, I believe the product will be available on a stand-alone basis. Leave some feedback to info@resultone.com or go to the website to check out the contact info.

I'm sure the owners will reply back on this question.

holy schmoke, they want you to buy a new PDA unit in order to get the software ... which by the way doesn't seem to be much more complex than a Hypercard stack from the days of yore.

mebbe us dirt bike riders is suppos' to jest now be gettin' in touch with that there electronics revolution :-)

If you already have a PDA unit, you can buy the software separately.

The owners had a lot of discussion and debate about how best to get the application in the user's hands. There are many motocrossers who aren't hi-tech (as opposed to the TT users), and don't have laptops. The application needs to be on the track with you, so that rules out desktops. Laptops and PDAs would be the alternatives. They chose to go the PDA route.

If there is enough demand, they would probably release a laptop version. There is concern about piracy on a laptop version. Yeah, I know that Palm software can be pirated, too. But it's a tad more difficult to do that.

If people do like the product, I really hope it doesn't get pirated. This is a husband-and-wife team, with limited resources, who are long-time motocrossers. Anyone who would steal from then would also steal the tools out of the back of their van. (OK, I probably shouldn't get on that soapbox.)

Anyway, the application is much more complicated than a hypercard stack. The wife is an accomplished C, C++, and Java programmer. It took her many, many hours to assimilate the data and many, many hours to code it.

Ok, for those with Palms, here's the feedback I received from them:

Thank you for your interest in the Personal Suspension Assistant! Yes we do sell the software separately. We were uncertain what the respond would be toward "software only" because a lot of riders are not the typical PDA user. We figured if people wanted only the software they would contact us, as you did!

The one caveat - we have only tested the software on the Palm m105 (8MB), the Sony CLIE PEG-SL10 (8MB), and the Sony CLIE PEG-T615C (16MB). We haven't seen any major issues when going to different systems as long as they have 8MB of RAM and of course run Palm OS v3.5 or higher.

The price for the software is $99.00. We will be placing a link on the web site to allow people to purchase the software separately. A message will be sent to you when the link is available.

Looks like we make a difference - they've dropped the price even more!

Dear Thumper Talk member,

Last week a friend of ours introduced ResultOne's new product the
Personal Suspension Assistant on Thumper Talk. From the thread, we
received a large amount of email from people wanting just the software.

We would like to thank the Thumper Talk members who took the time to
send us email! We are a new company with a new product and have found it
challenging to determine where to price PSA. During the 2002 race
season in Colorado, we did a considerable amount of pricing research.
However, from the TT responds it appears our research was inaccurate.

Taking the TT e-mail's into consideration, we introduced PSA at the
Sports Riders Association of Colorado awards banquet this past Saturday
priced at $39.99 for the software and $169.99 for the software and
handheld ($129.99 for the Sony handheld plus $39.99 for software). The
response was excellent!

Thank you for taking time to express your interest in our product and
your concern about our price. With your feedback, we believe we were
successful at the SRAC banquet and now have our product priced correctly!

Thank you,

Dave and Mickey Gonzalez

It is amazing how much of a force this board is becoming in the industry. I am glad to be a part of this. The owners have to be proud of this accomplishment.

The personal suspension assistant caused a flurry of discussion back in February. I was so interested that I went out and bought a PDA, but the folks at resultone told me that the software (version 1) would not be released until August 2003. I have e-mailed them several times over the last eight months but have not received a reply. Did they ever release the software?
