ktown WELCOME TO THE FORUM
i know what u mean about being new... with this only my 18th post and all.... but as for mods on the WR there are things that eliminate starting problems and make running easier... such as the Gray wire in the ignition system that u might have heard about. i cant explain about it really well... me and my dad did ours about 2 years ago.... but for easier starting.. i found that a hotter spark plug an iridium plug has done wonders for me... plus the Vortex ignition system... YZ timing... all of these have turned the nightmare of starting my WR into a 1 kick wonder and taking out the baffle in the pipe... makes things a little easier 2.. cold hot it doesnt matter :) simple mods that have been done to my bike.... the bars.. the stock bars SUCK they are lead sodder... i suggest changing them... jets can help out as well..... and there are a few others that other people have done.. look at them and follow wander around... WELCOME TO THE FORUM :D

Probably because what you're asking is old news - go to the FAQ http://www.garlic.co...wr250f_home.htm and read or do a search on any topic and it may already be covered in the archives.

See the thread at the top called "NEW OWNERS PLEASE READ!", read it... Welcome to TT.

Everyone here is willing to help you out but you may need to do some home work on your own also. Learn to use the search engine, it will help you out tremendesly.
You get out of this site what you put into it. :D
Can you ask the previous owner about any changes he made to the bike? How about maintinance? An 01' should have the valve clearances checked, valves that are out of spec can cause difficult starting as well as more serious problems.
Welcome to T.T. :)
