I think I'm coming upto the first major service. What other things need to be done/checked?

on my 06 i checked them after 4000 miles..on my 08 i check them last week with 22 hours on the motor...

not sure if that helps you out but if it starts 1 or 2 kick your prolly fine. however it doesnt hurt to check...

Check at 300km after run in, then at 1000km and every 1000km affter that.

A lot of people wait for the bike to get hard to start before checking the valves, but if you notice them closing up, then you can adjust the shims accordingly and get longer out of the valves before a top end rebuild is required.

For your first service, retighten and locktite everything,

Check;

Spoke tension

Headstem grease

Oil and filter(obvious)

At 1500 km change fork oil, and at 3000 do both ends suspension oil,

Gease Linkage bearings,

Replace crap oem yamaha wheel bearings.
