i just got my 83 or 84 artic cat el tigre 5000 out cuz we findly got some snow. well once i got gas to it started in only like 5 pulls. well then i put the new belt on and it seamed to tite, and it made the whole track turn so i blocked it up to start and i finnly got it to start so i tried to go ride it but all it did was bogg. So i take the belt off and run it. it works great just like normal, but with the belt it just boggs. when i ran it last last year it worked fine with the old belt but it was one i got from a buddy that kinda worked but not the greatest. cuz i snaped the old one. the original belt is a 0227-030 which was on it when i bought it, and the one i got from a buddy after i snaped the first one was a 0227-019 that is not the original. so i went to the dealer and they ordered me the one which there computor says is supposed to be on there and it was the 0227-30 and with it on it just boggs. any idea its not the pluggs, fuel filter, or gas. idk if it needs a carb clean or the clutch needs adjusted and how much do the belts streech after u use them for a little while.

oh and the 0227-019 belt is now to narrow and just smokes

thanks:

Clean the carbs and check for fuel flow issues, like a pinched line or dirt plugging it somewhere.

Test the Coils and CDI on it too, they are known for making sleds do some weird stuff

Check your rollers and under carraige. It may have frozen up. it may need grease? If it runs without the belt but boggs with it on it sounds like there is restriction in the rollers somewhere.

More than likely the carbs have gummed up during storage. Take them apart and clear out the plugged jets. Should be ok after.

With the belt on it, you are putting a load on the engine. Without the belt, the engine is just freewheeling..

I had the exact same problem with my old Artic Cat..It was so bad that there was probably about 1 gallon of old, nasty, gummed up, weird looking fuel in the bottom of the tank. I had never seen anything like it. I ended up replacing the fuel lines and cleaning the carb. It ran great after that. Man I hated that short little track..

Get the right belt also, if its to short or wide its opening the secondary clutch and that will cause a bog.
