Need new sprockets and chain

I figure its about time for sprockets and chain. Im on an 05 wr450f and it has 2000 miles of hard off road riding in the woods in the east coast. The bike came with o-ring chain that has held up the whole time, sweet! The question is which chain and sprockets? I,m looking at Vortex but will aluminum hold up or should i go steel and maybe DID or Regina chain What do you think?

I finally put a new chain and sprockets on my bike after 3K miles. The stock stuff lasted great so I wanted to be sure my new setup would last just as long. I ended up going with the Iron Man sprockets front and rear with a D.I.D X-ring. Definately not the cheapest combo but from what I have read it should last. You also mentioned the Regina chain. A buddy of mine runs one with Iron Man sprockets and has no complaints. You should be fine with any brand name O-ring or X-ring chain. Just make sure to keep it clean, lubed and adjusted.

+2 on the Ironman, great sprockets have shown no wear in the time I've had them. I would normally be throwing a new countershaft sprocket on by now ?

I got the Regina ZRH Z ring chain together as a package deal with the Ironman sprockets from dirttricks. Good bargain on the chain this way.

In 4 months of riding and maybe 8 hare scrambles I've only done 1 chain adjustment

I've been looking at replacing mine as well and think I have decided on the Iron Man and D.I.D. X-Ring combo as well. $235 at Cyclebuy.com for the kit but I have seen the sprockets for $35 front and $85 rear at Qualitysmart.com.

What pricing has anyone else come up with?

I just recently purchased the renthal sprockets and chain kit with the R3 O-ring chain. I liked the idea of getting everything the same beand then there is less chance of wear (since the chain rollers are made to fit right into the sprocket grooves. But I have noticed some light wear on the rear sprocket already. Chain has held up good. I do a lot of coast/sand riding and so i have to take caution of both the sand and the salt water.

Supersprox Stealth rear ($80) which was unbelievably tough on my last bike.

i personally run a DID o-ring chain and sunline sprockets .

i would probably buy ironman sprockets if these ones ever wore out , but so far there doing great . im assuming they were less expensive then ironman , they were a gift so i have no idea .

how come no one ever runs sidewinder sprockets ? or at least i don't hear of it . i personally have no experience with them , im just really curious .

I've had good luck with many of the aforementioned combos in this thread, but right now I'm taking a leap of faith and using Primary Drive from Rockymountainatv.

Never had riding buddies comment on my chain, but just the "cheaper" look of the PD stuff gets me jabs each and every time.

Primary Drive chains sold at RM are some of the best chains around. You can spend more but you won't get a better chain!

Ditto on the Rocky Mountain Primary Drive chain and I would add that I've had excilent luck with the Steel Primary Drive sprockets.

Update-After some research I've decided to go with Ironman Sprockets and DID 520 VM X-ring. I believe this will be about as strong a system as you can buy. Best price so far......243.00 @cyclebuy.... costly but hoping it will be the last chain and sprockets i buy.

I still have the original chain and sprockets on my 05 WR 450, bought new, after 3000 miles. I ride mostly tight and technical woods single track and high speed open desert. I have had to adjust my chain only twice, and it is still in great condition. I wash it after almost every ride, then lube and wipe. I have a new chain and sprocket combo ready to go, along with a new chain slider...... when it needs it. Maybe another 2000 miles??

I do when ever possible but last time I checked with them they didn't carry Primary Drive. Plus they don't have sales like RM does on riding gear etc and once you register with RM they send you sale notices that are spacific to your bike!

Yeah, my sprockets and chain are still original but i noticed a tooth broken in half on the front sprocket so time to replace it all.
