08 Yz450 best gearing?

Recommended Posts

Desert racing where I ride tends to include tight sections that preclude the use of really tall gearing like that. I usually run a 13/48, and while I do find times I want more top speed on a dry lake, or something, it doesn't happen as often as you might think. But I do run a 14/50 sometimes, and it works out fine.

i got my 2007 450 and eagerly slapped my 14/49 combo on there. (stock rear was 49) and i had a spare 14 tooth front in the tool box.

I was ready to RIP!

or so i thought. turns out it was WAY to fast in 2nd and too slow in 1st and if i ever got into 3rd... it was all over. i crashed 3 times that race. pure hell.

ditched the 14 front, went back to the 13, then got a 48 rear.

it works on tracks and desert.

13/48 as Gray says gets my vote. great in technical, plenty fast in wash's and dry lake beds. good all around combo.
