I bought a 2003 YZ250F. I live in MN. I don't get to ride it as much as I'd like. Therefore I've been spending my time surfing the web, looking at mods and hop-ups. Now I've gone and spent a stupid amount of money, but hopefully my results will be interesting. I have already paid for dyno time at a shop. I'm just waiting for all my parts to arrive so I can get "down to bidness". So here's what I want to do:

-do a dyno run of a basically stock (Boyessen water pump cover and impeller are only mods) '03 YZ250F

-do a dyno run of one with Vortex ignition (ordered today!) set to "Power" mode

-do a dyno run of one with stock ignition, M4 full titanium system installed

-do a dyno run of both the M4 and Vortex installed

I hope the results make me feel better about all the money I'm spending! My "real" PowerNow is on the way, I may try to squeeze in a run with that too, but hey, dyno time is expensive, I can't be there all day! That's probably all I'm going to do to the motor, I don't want to really build it yet. After I have all these parts, I can install them and do my "research". If nothing else, it should make for interesting reading!

I'll letcha know the results of my "totally sweet scientific study"! This has been more money than I ever wanted to spend, but I figured if I'm going to have a cool bike, I'm going to really have a cool bike! So there was a good deal on dyno time at the motorcycle show, so I bought some to really make it all "fun". :) Every dyno reads different, so the numbers don't really matter, it's really just to see the difference in numbers between mods.

I agree!! I really want to see your results. SUnruh's 3way blind test was a great real world test, but I want to see NUMBERS!! :) Your results, combined with SUnruh's and the 1/4 throttle miss may push me into making the VORTEX purchase.

Later.

fiddler,
please realize that the cdi's on the 01, 02 and 03 are all different. what worked on my 01 may NOT carry over to the 03. however, one member IS reporting great results. this newer X10 version of the vortex sounds really cool with all of the curves it has. mine has 2, not 10. i would just like to have 3 (power, traction, stock). ten would be super nice.

SUnruh,

Thanks for the heads up. Heck if the Vortex just fixes the miss then I'll be happy. So the X10 has 10 curves? Geez. But there is a two way switch that goes on the bars right? you can only really use 2 - 3 settings at a given time?

I'm gonna go see if I can read up on the x10.

yeah, the x10 has ten settings, but only two can be used at a time. Actually only one is changeable I think. You move a little pin like thing to one of the other 9 settings depending on track conditions. I can't remember all 10, but another tt'er posted them here several weeks ago, do a search.

I am really curious as I have the M4 on my 03 ys250f and also have the Vortex on order from MT Racing. The M4 does seem to help over stock.

My guess would be that the ignition will be the biggest gain. I hope you correct jetting for each mod otherwise it would be wasted time.
