I've got an 03 cam coming. My 02 starts so well that I almost cancelled it. Then I stalled it a few times the other day and did 30 kicks to get it going. I'm wondering if those of you who have installed the 03 cams can comment on how it does after a stall.

I stalled mine a couple of times this weekend and it started back up no problem. One time I dumped it in a turn and let it sit for 20-30 secs on its side (there were a lot of people behind me) and it still started right back up.

The cold starts are still giving me hell though. I tried giving it a couple of twists of the throttle and that just seemed to make it worse. In fact I have gotten it to start easier by using no throttle and pulling out the hot start.

greg,
what is your fuel screw set to?
what size is your pilot jet?

as far as stalling goes. i don't know. i have an EFM. :)
which saved me about 5 stalls in yesterdays race.

My bike is a little more difficult to start after the '03 cam swap. I also switched to YZ timing at the same time. My fuel screw is at 2 turns out now, from 1 1/2 before the mod. That seems to have helped.

SUnruh-

The fuel screw was somewhere between 1 3/4 - 2 turns out last time I checked it. The pilot jet is a 40. Do you think a bigger pilot jet might help with the cold starts?

The frustrating thing about it is that from the 2nd or 3rd kick it always sounds like it really wants to start. But it still is taking me 20-30 kicks (and sometimes more if I manage to flood it.)

The times that my bike has stalled (unless it was an extreem up hill) I have been able to pull in the clutch and let it fly and bump start it with very little effort. It seems like I have been going less than 2-3 mph and been able to dump the clutch and go. The couple of times that I have crashed, it has started within 4-5 kicks. I try to kick it very fast and be smooth with it. (rapid kicks but not bottoming out on the peg) So far it is working great.
Best of luck.

It is harder to stall first off. When I have stalled it, the bike fires on the 2nd or 3rd kick everytime. The cold weather starting thing isn't that bad. I rode this weekend in the snow. It never took more than 2 kicks, even the initial start up was 2 kicks. Just for kicks I went down the trail and let 1st gear pull me, no throttle, and pulled the clutch in and killed it. Popped the cluth, it slid sideways, slimy out in the snow, and fired! The e-cam is by far worth the money. The minor problems that you MAY need to work out are far better than that D**N starting routine.
