Still *about* even... just blows my mind that half of the bikes are fine and the other half have the problem. You'd figure from that alone, Yamaha could look at the good and bad bike side by side and figure out the problem/fix?

mxpimp: My dealer sold it to me for their cost. I think they felt sorry for me because I brought my bike in there so many times. I'm just glad that the Vortex fixed the miss.

Latest news from the dealer...they've tried over 8 different jetting combos and it still misses. They said Yamaha thinks I have a defective carb and is sending a new one. Only thing is, it won't be here until the 18th (backordered from the factory).
I'm REALLY unhappy about spending so much money for a bike I've only been able to ride twice. The dealer suggested I call Yamaha's Customer Support and complain, and I suggest you all do the same. I got the usuaul response from Cust. Support..."We aren't aware of any ongoing problems with this model and there has not been a recall issued."
The dealer looked at TT like I requested and is aware of the defective CDI box theory. They said their hands are tied until Yamaha tells them anything different than trying a new carb. I directed Cust. Support to TT also but who knows if anyone will actually look at it.
PLEASE call Yamaha and voice your complaints so the rest of us don't have to pay $300 more for a Vortex.

I empathize with all the WR owners that are experiencing problems with their bikes, and the mysterious miss. I took delivery of one the very first WR 250 F's that was sold @ Blackfoot Motorcycle in early Jan/01. It gave me problems from day one. Even when I picked it up at the dealership, and my salesman was going over the bike with me, it failed to start. I should have recognized this as an omen right then and there. Despite all of the supposed "expert" four stroke riders on the Blackfoot sales staff, nobody was able to start the bike. They eventually assured me that there was nothing wrong with the bike, gave me a new spark plug, and probably snickered as I loaded up and drove away. It was always hard to start, and when I bitched to my Dealer, he just shook his head and said there was nothing he could do. I eventually had to take it to a mechanic who diagnosed it with having a bad throttle position sensor. It was putting out enough ohms. Even though I had only rode the bike 3 times, Blackfoot told me it was not covered under warranty, and a new one would cost $300.00 CDN. After contacting the right person @ Yamaha Canada, I was given a new TPS for free, in exchange for my old one. Nonetheless, despite numerous attempts at re-jetting, checking the valves, and cleaning the carb, I was never able to get the bike to run without having a miss somewhere in the RPM band, for as long as I owned it. Funny thing is, I know other guys who still own their WR's, whose bikes were also '01's, and whose VIN's are sequentially very close, who have never had any problems.
Partly out of frustration, I eventually sold my WR. Last summer, I bumped into the guy who bought it, and we swapped bikes, so I got to ride it again. He had made some changes jetting wise, and had taken apart the carb like I had done so many times. I really enjoyed riding it again on familiar trails.....but it still had the miss

I paid $292 for my Vortex before tax
250FRider,
Can you tell me where you bought your Vortex?
Thanks

I bought my Vortex at my local dealer, Tacoma Motorsports. If you're thinking about getting one you should ask your dealer to match this price. It's the least they can do for you considering they can't fix your bike. My dealer also installed mine for free.

Yes...I think. I only rode my bike for about 20 minutes putting some time on it all at under 1/2 throttle and it seemed to miss, but it was very cold. I got mine about two weeks ago and it came straight from the warehouse. Also that $292 price is very generous, that isn't for the X-10 is it? I know our dealer cost on it is a little higher (jst a few dollars), but we don't buy much from Mike.

johnk408: Yes, that price is for the X10. I was just going to wait for Yamaha to come up with a fix, but I couldn't pass up on a deal like that.

I'm not trying to flame here but are you guys sure you don't have it? Some may have missed the "hold the throttle VERY STILL" part. As in bolted in one spot on level ground. This is not a "bog". I'm just trying to make sure the new guys are on the same page. If you can notice it on the track I have no idea how. Once again I not sure I care about it though. The only time my throttle is in one spot that long is when I'm putting my goggles on....
By the way how do put the little face's in your text? Thanks........

Hello everyone, I've been reading this post w/some major concern since I plan on buying a 03' YZF250 at the end of this month or early March. I'm wondering if this problem can be duplicated at the dealer I choose the bike from prior to putting my cash down on the bike.
Am I reading some of these posts right when it says if you put the bike on a level ground and give it 1/4 throttle it will "miss". And can I assume that it can be done while in neutral?
Secondly, I will be buying this bike somewhere in California, either the Bay Area or Central Valley and I didn't notice if any NoCal or SoCal guys or girls had this problem.
Any help would be appreciated before I buy

Interesting poll on the '03 miss. Yesterday while running my '01 WR250F I held the throttle at 1/8 to 1/4; the rpms would run up and down without changing the throttle position. Once I backed off the throttle the engine died. It has had this "miss" ever since it were new but yesterday it was more pronounced than before.
