The company I work for just installed SmartFilter on the internet system. Now when I try accessing TT I get the following message:

Forbidden - You were denied access because:
Access denied by SmartFilter content category. The requested URL belongs to the following categories: Sports, Chat.

Bummer!!!!!!!!

I've been told that this might work for evading the smart filter but I haven't been able to figure it out. Maybe you can?

convert name of web site to ip.
convert each octet of decimal ip to 4 octets of binary ip
Add all 4 octets of binary together, convert to decimal.
feed this number into your browser. Site found, logs not triggered.

If you use GoToMy PC you can access it from your machine at work in a different window and you will be viewing TT from your home machine. Just an idea.

Using the method that Junior Vet suggested, www.thumpertalk.com can be accessed at:

http://3477538845

An easier way to get that # is to take TTs IP address (207.71.8.29) and do this: (207*16777216)+(71*65536)+(8*256)+29

It doesn't work in my browser (maybe the way our internet access is set up here), but I can ping 3477538845 and it returns TT's correct IP address. Even so, I think if you could use that to get to the main page of TT, the first link you clicked would set off your SmartFilter again.

Thanks all. I can actually get to TT by just replacing the URL (www.thumpertalk.com) with the IP (207.70.8.29) but Greg is right, every time I click on a thread it reverts back to the URL and hits the filter. Others at work did't have that problem and were very happy to get the advice.

if it's an emergency, and someone is in grave danger ("is there any other kind?", asked jack in 'a few good men'), and you absolutely have to get to thumpertalk --- a small bird told me that in this case you should use a public proxy. or even a not-so-public-proxy. in the trade, this is sometimes called an "anonymizer". basically you send the proxy the request, it contacts TT, TT responds to it, the proxy sends you back the data. only a minor reconfiguration of your browser preferences is required. problem solved; that is, unless your corporate firewall/caching folks actually know what they are doing. however, fortunately for you, and/or unfortunately for them, many do not. which is sad. after you read (will probably regret posting this link) and (this link) and (this link) you will figure out how it is that (this TT link) works.

Or if you want to get really creative, and you have your own constant high speed connection at home, you could set up your own proxy server and point to it from work.
