i picked up my 04 wr 450 with less than 10 hours on it so it was in like new condition for $3400

but with an 04 you get a red sticker so i would get a newer one if that matters to you

the 07 up bikes are gonna cost you more but they are a bit smaller and lighter if that matters

A '99 WR400 is the best but you need a strong right leg. Actually, for the money (under $2k) they are pretty good. Lighter, no bat tender, and put the $1500 in the bank or gear.

Yeah, agree with Baja, only because they had dramas with the starter motor, as it was the first year with the electric leg. Other than that, as far as I'm aware, they were just as reliable as the rest of the range, and a big step up in terms of ergos over the 02 426, although I still have a soft spot for the 426. Magic motor in the 426. Exciting.

MXJunkys '05 started easier when cold with a kick or two than with the button, but the 'lectric start was useful in hairier situations on thuh trail.

05 or newer for the beefier forks in the front.

But you can't go wrong with an 04 either. Get the newest one your budget will allow.

newer is better , what ever you can afford . i would at least get a 450 and try for an aluminum framed one .
