Just bought an 08 YZ450f, was wondering how long before I need to perform the first oil change and in what increments from that point.

I dumped the factory fill when I got the new bike home and filled it up with Amsoil MCF. Then, after the first 1.5 hours of break in, I changed it again. After that, I've always used a max of 3 ride days, or a max of 8-10 hours, whichever occurs first, as my change interval, with a filter service at every change. I also use a Scotts mesh oil filter, so there's never any reason I can't clean it.

Not every oil will hold up that long, though, and if you plan on using an automotive oil bought in bulk, plan on changing after each ride until you have either lab test info or your own used oil analysis to show that the oil will hold up longer. Oils not intended for use in transmissions are seldom able to keep their viscosity very well in such service.

I broke mine in with the factory fill. Then simply changed it and went back with factory oil. Get an hour meter. It's your best friend
