According to Dirt Bike (Sept. 2000) in their Real Numbers article, top speed for a YZ426 is 88 mph. WR426 is 90 mph.

On pavement, maybe. Take 10mph off at for wheel spin in the dirt.

dirt Rider's recent 450 shootout had top speeds in the 75 - 79 range for all the 450's --- the 'ol 426 is likely comparable on top end. Should be roughly the same as the 250 2 strokers on the big end, but there are too many variables to think of in impromptu drag racing.

I got smoked in a drag race on sand by a 125 (i was on a KX 500) --- he hooked up and went, while i dug an 8" deep ditch for 100 ft before i hooked up

At first I was gonna suggest you run a paddle tire but then I remembered the last time (and only time) I rode a KX500 in the sand and it didnt have one. LOL. It was too fast with just a regular tire on it. I couldnt imagine one with a paddle tire.
