Well, I finally got around to building some wheels out of spare parts I had. I turned down the hubs and polished them up before I laced them and they came out looking great! They look better in person than in the pictures. Now I'm just waiting for the new bearings to come for the rear wheel.

I've made some parts for my pitbike like a skidplate and some other parts, other than that, not too much. Sometime I'm gonna make a chain guide for my pitbike.

I sanded them smooth using finer and finer sand paper. Once it was pretty smooth I used aluminum polish and an old t-shirt to polish them to a shine. It is time consuming and it is much easier if you have a lathe (my initial sanding was done on a lathe).

Nice. What are these for? Did you have to cut any ribs out of the centers? (Like on Yamahas?)

Thanks!

These are for a yamaha, so yes I did have to grind down the casting marks and two ribs on the rear hub.

I did spend quite a bit of time trying to figure out a way of making a carbon fiber aluminum mix hub like Talon has. I figured out some ways that might work, but never bothered to try it. I don't want to waste a hub, as I'm sure I won't get it exactly right on my first try.

so there's were standard Yami hubs??
That's ridiculously good!

I'm in the process of getting my rims anodised black and was thinking of buying a set of silver Talon hubs but I think I might give this a go instead.

Do you have to keep polishing the hubs after each ride/wash?

Yup, those are just stock yamaha hubs. Ifyou don't coat them with anything then you will have to touch them up a bit once in a while, but it isn't hard to do.

These hubs had no ribs on the front and two ribs on the back. These were just casting marks, so grinding them off doen't hurt anything. The pre 2001 front yamaha hubs, and some kawasaki and suzuki hubs I have seen have many large ribs, these may add strength to the hub, so I wouldn't recommend grinding them off.
