Behind Hub industrial park, where pleasant valley becomes Alexander Rd. Some good trails back there, up top I seen some no trasspassing signs, so be careful?

Here are some pics from yesterday's ride. The wind was from the south so that's the way I went leaving town via Ridge Road. Next thing I know I'm in Wayne County. There were quite a few quad trails out there but all were packed down and icy so I stuck to pavement wherever possible. Ended up on Warwick Road so I decided to check out Warwick Junction.

Hey, the tower's still there... Last time I was here was the early '90s soon after the tower was decommissioned and its functions moved to an office nearly 1000 miles away in Jacksonville. Good to see it still standing. I ignored the no trespassing sign and peeked inside. Looks like it's just used to store maintenance equipment these days. I always thought it would make a cool house.

One of the trackside signals indicated a westbound train was coming so I hung around for a few minutes and shot a photo as it went by.

I headed back to town via Cleveland-Massillon Road and doglegged down into the Cuyahoga Valley on Yellow Creek Road. The valley was rather chilly and every now and then I'd hit a warm spot. Stopped at a little picnic area for a while...

Too bad that trail off to the right is for hikers only. At the other end of the trail is the Oak Hill parking lot that became famous as the spot where that Canton cop dumped his murdered wife's body a couple of summers ago.

After a couple of minutes I heard a locomotive horn. Sure enough, the Cuyahoga Valley tourist train was running.

Finished my ride on Valley Parkway to Puritas to 130th to home. After three months of snow & cold I really needed that. Someday I hope to ride without longjohns...

I came across this spooky bridge in Salem Ohio while on this website.  :)

http://www.deadohio.....htm#EGYPT ROAD

I looked at it on google maps. Its on an abandoned road through the woods near a swamp. It looks like some powerline trails intersect the area. They say its a bad place to be at night. So who wants to go?

edit: Also on that site is a partially caved in rail tunnel.

Good to hear about your trip Goggles!
I'm looking forward to this week being a bit warmer. I need to order a rear tire, because my bike (XR650L) just doesn't move well in the snow with no rear tread. Looking forward to another season of riding. Anybody ever do a dual-sport trip or event? I would love to do something like that. I never have, I'm more-or-less a casual rider and mostly ride solo. The less and less I get to ride the more it would be nice to plan for it and maximize enjoyment!

A friend of mine went on a couple of orginized rides but does not do it any more. He said they are too brutal and the fumes are hell. I like just riding out of my garage whenever I feel like it. I go for the care free late night, no traffic, take a few breaks, take turns climbing the big hill type of riding. But its all good, whatever type of riding, is funner than throwing empty beer cans at the tv.

Hey, I did one tag on the Ohio Tagorama advrider back in the fall! I surveyed google maps finding the place and drove 45 minutes grinning ear to ear to get it!

oh and markey, how can you live right by there with an awesome trail and not know it! I used to drive from slavic village to get there!

Man this topic is making me feel bad for moving from the area, but don't let that stop me from sharing my experirience. By far I consider that Hemlock rd spot my "home" and want to share it with all of you! And wobbly if you can please cut that tree that is blocking the other side from stone rode(also need to access it from rt21 since the stone road bridge across the river has been torn down since I was born) But it makes a connection that needs to be there!

Dave.

EDIT* OH and FYI, you seen how well my bike handles sand, but if you take stone rd from 21 until it dead ends basically in the river, there is some land there, technically part of the cuyohoga valley park but nobody ever bothers me there, its all loose sand and is a bitch for me, but still fun to get stuck in :)

monthos...***?  that hemlock rd area is right by me...I ride my mtn bike there from the stone rd side but it dead ends into the river...how do you get to that cliff in the pic?

wobbly - since you seemed to have generated all this buzz, I nominate you to organize the 1st c-town d/s rally.

and how do I post a freaking pic of my bike on this thread???

I was out running the dogs today and ran into two guys on dirt bikes riding along the CSX tracks and I-71 between Ridge and Memphis in Brooklyn. Was that any of you guys?

You'll need to create an account at one of the picture hosting sites. I use Photobucket but there are others. Once you have an account you can upload photos and link to them from here.

One of these days I'm going to register there, for now I just lurk.

I'm up for it, but I won't go in the tunnel... And as a true skeptic of anything deemed "haunted" I say we camp out there some night on a full moon and see just how "haunted" this place is...

"josh" at deadohio.com said:

The bridge has a large pentagram drawn into the center of it, possibly because of the alleged cult activity that goes on there.

Yeah... or maybe a bored teenager with a spray can who's been listening to too much heavy metal...

deadohio.com said:

If you look under the bridge, you can also see a rope that hangs down, which has been tied to the bridge supports. This was supposedly from a man who hung himself and committed suicide there, and the rope still hangs where it did on that day.

Or... more than likely... some kids hung a rope swing there years ago and lying in the bushes nearby is an old tire with a matching piece of rope tied to it... :worthy: :banghead:

If we go I'll make a real noose we can hang there to give the kids something to talk about!

I would say touring the city using Wobbly's routes would best be done in small groups of maybe 5-6 or less. Don't want to ruin it for everyone...

I am all for going riding together but lets keep it somewhat on the low.

The first thing I need to know is if anyone needs a place to park and unload.

Who is in?

Opinions on day or night?

And for recommended tires = knobbies :worthy:

I was thinking late day, ride to my sunset viewing spot, then night madness. but I open to whatever.

Goggles, I was riding yesterday but not over by the Csx. I was over by the Cleveland line, Short line and the Chicago. (just so you know, I never knew none of this stuff before, but you caused the rail bug to bite me and now I am a full blown rail foamer).

Well you probably seen me a few times riding by, either on a white DR650 or a black DR650. Stone road and hemlock meet in a V right where it dead ends into the river. Turn around and continue on hemlock past that factory or whatever it is. You will soon come across a road closed sign, just continue on past it. When coming from this direction there is a huge downed tree that blocks your path(was there last fall). I have approched this tree from both sides before, always thinking about cutting it but always forget to bring a saw...

I usually enter that area by coming up from rt21 near the downtown of independence, turn onto hemlock up there and again you come across a road closed barricade, go past it and have fun!

I also used to play around the river there too, cross the tracks and go into the field, its VERY sandy and/or rutty back there. Alot of times people are fishing in the river and if thats the case I don't bother them and just go somewhere else.

Use google maps to get an idea of what I am talking about, it shows hemlock dead end on both sides, but once upon a time it linked it all together... Use satellite view and you can see the entrace to the large field to the south. There are trails around the field and thats where the pic with a cliff is..

monthos...now you really have me wishing I went with d/s tires on my offroad wheel set.

Looks like I know where my 1st local ride is going to be once I get my bike put back together!

markey, thats a damn fine looking supermoto you have there. Good work :worthy:

I love the hemlock road area, its got some small  trails that keep circling around and coming back to each other, some very small bumps that you can get air from, a few small 10-12ft hills to climb. Its in essense a newbie motocross riding area or just a great chill/relax and ride place. And the field that opens is a hill that is just sweet to park on and enjoy the scenery. I road back there last year almost every day and while I seen some tracks including what I assume was from a jeep I never actually came across anyone back there.

Man I am jonesing for my bikes! It hit 70 the other day here in VA. Supposed to get back to crap weather this weekend though
