Good job Monthos I am enjoying the pics.

Since you have 2 DR650s, have you ever thought about trading the older one for a d/s xr400r? I have one with a Baja designs d/s kit, pumper carb, XRs Only exhaust, and Ohio street title. The bike is really clean. Just a thought.

I have, on several occasions, wanted to play that tag game on ADV.

So when are u coming back to Cleveland, in May or something?

I may come down for a quick visit in February, don't know if the weather or time will permit a ride though. I have thought about selling the white one, a good friend of mine said he is interested and needs to save, I promised I would save it until spring for him, then its on craigslist.

What year XR400? I have been looking into getting a lighter D/S, might be worth a look. The white DR is a 1999

You guys are making me jones for my DR. I'm sitting here in Cleveland with way too much snow on the ground, my bike's back home in Tennessee (Wobbly knows what's up...), on the way up I kept seeing what looked like quad trails and single track along the highway. We get to Cleveland and I'm immediately interested in getting out and seeing more, but I can't, too many other things going on. So I hop on TT as a temporary diversion... and what do I find but pics that make me even MORE interested in getting out and more regretful that my DR is 500 miles away....  
You guys are making me nuts.....
I'd really like to be up here on my bike with time to kill.
But those are some really cool pics, it's interesting to see the one from 1929 and then see the one shot in the present day from almost the same vantage point.

TALK ABOUT SNOW. I bumped this thread so we can talk about the 13+inches we have on the ground in the Cleveland area now.

I ride mostly SM but have a dirt set for dual sporting.

Ya we are getting some snow. I went 4wheelin in my trail rig last night in many of these places depicted. Was a blast! I got some serious tires, a winch and good heat, so it was pretty fun & relaxing.

Yeah well my bikes are stuck in Cleveland and I am in Virginia!(notice the foliage in my pics....)

Well, if you're worried about your bikes getting lonely, I have some extra time today.... I could drop by and keep them company for a bit. You know, let them stretch their legs and know that they are not forgotten.
Of course it would mostly for the bikes' mental well being....

<sigh> OK, seriously, this is wearing thin on me (and the rest of us)... It's like being a fish in a tank, I  can see out, but it's an untouchable world and I can't venture into it (a dude was robbed/killed right in front of his wife.. not too far away... a couple of nights ago, last night there was some sort of a fight across the street with five or six people involved)... If I were by myself it would be a different story, but with the kids here too....

Wow!! I love the pics! This thread brings back many memories. We used to ride in valley view, park behind the school.... Mom and Dad used to own a steak restaurant in the Halle bldg. (Steak Escape) I have lived in TN for abt 7 yrs. now, and the riding is not too bad. makes me wish I had a D/S so I could come see the downtown riding/history. Post more pics and history...and if anyone has a spare D/S they wanna share, I'll be up sometime this summer xD!

P.S. Lived in a suburb for 15 years, Berea, OH

Hi RT, thanks for sharing the cool pics. I know there are some nice riding spots down your way.

A couple years ago there was practically nowhere to ride in Cleveland. I started out just trying to find somewhere to shift thru a couple of gears without loading my bike up and going to Smith Rd. Raceway or Bear Creek. I am proud to say that there is now some decent trails in Cleveland. Some of the connections include deserted roads, rail maintenence paths, narrow back alleys, powerline trails, abandoned rail thru-ways and trails I blazed thru forgotten ribbons of woods. There were neat little spots all over that were fun to hit for a few minutes, but were not worth loading up a bike and driving to just to ride. So I connected them one way or another and made "stops" out of them along the loop.

I found most of these hidden riding areas from my old job; towing cars for The Cleveland Police. The car thieves would often steal a vehicle and drive it into some woods and strip it. I would write down the location in my journal and figure a way to connect it to other areas with minimal pavement. Another benefit to that job was the opportunity to ask if the cop thought it would be cool to ride a dirtbike there. None ever thought it would be a problem and I always mentioned that I was gonna do it. On top of that, I make darned sure that none of my cuts are going to ruffle any feathers or put me on the wrong side of the law. And most of all, I am very stealthy.

I first set out set up a trail that made me "feel" like I was trail riding in some woods to "get away" from the rat race. But it has taken on a whole different feel. Now, especially at night, its not hard to imagine you are riding in some post apocalyptic city of the future or something. Its trippy.

That sounds AWESOME. I love doing the same thing. I used to work in the country ~25 miles from home. I would do a similar thing, find the most out-of-the-way roughest path to get there. I would find lots of neat trails and paths and try to connect them all. It made a ~50 mile round trip commute take hours and I loved every second of it. I really like the whole 'forgotten urban' area type riding too. More pics!!!

Was out in the snow a couple of days ago and Saturday it's supposed to be in the mid-40s...



Finally got around to making new brackets for the aux lights. They are still too bright to use in traffic.

Agreed, but actually getting it in Cleveland is always iffy at best...

I know where Baumhart Road is, but what is ATS? Is it 4WD only or are bikes allowed?

ATS was named by the guys who worked at the Ford plant. It means "across the street". That place is a free for all so you can ride whatever there. One thing tho, it is a real muddy mess when it rains but its cool if it has not rained for a week or two. There are some hella ruts and holes, some will swallow a bike.

Baumhart Rd. is just East of Vermillion, isn't it?

Yep. Baumhart Road begins just east of Vermillion and ends just west of Oberlin.
