Switched over to the 2-smoke... Sold the YZ250f and picked this puppy up today. It's pretty much in mint condition. The guy who I bought it from is the original owner, and it scared him lol. Just ordered some backgrounds and numbers and they should be in the mail in a few days, I'll post pics.

Oh. I brought it home and ran it up and down the street and noticed it was leaking oil (pretty sure) out of an overflow tube that came straight from the engine. I'm guessing this is normal and the gas is a little rich? Thanks.

Congrats on your new toy!

It's hard not to love 2 strokes. bomb proof, cheap to maintain, light, easy to start, fun to ride.

I can't think of any tubes that go to the engine on a 2 stroke, there are vent lines from the carb usually.

leaking oil is not normal, except for maybe a little spooge from the exhaust pipe on a 2 stroke ... which is usually indicative of a rich condition on the carb jetting NOT the fuel/oil mixture. Always run your fuel oil mixture at what the bike's manual calls for.

if the substance is a real black color then it is most likely excess oil that didnt burn off. my brothers yz125 did that to and it didnt harm anything. its kind of like when you see some silencers that have a black goop stain on the ends or bottom, thats what it is its just commin out an overflow type tube. if that makes sense haha

Thanks for the help, here is a picture of the tube that it is leaking from. It is the one in the middle that comes straight from the engine.

clean the carb, and some good fresh premix in there w/ good quality oil and a fresh plug, repack the silencer and go romp all that goo out of it, just hang on tight:ride:

if it is coming out of the power-valve vent house it is prob a lil rich, i could also be the type of premix that is in there and the gas might be old, but i would not run the ratio that the owner manual suggest it is prob like 30:1
i run 36:1 in both my 250 and 125 because Ive been told by a million differnt people to run 32:1, and 40:1 so i split the difference and run 36. you will need to go get a ratio rite if you do not have on already, nice bike. you will love it, one suggestion i would have the suspension revalve and re spring to your weight and you will love it best money spent on the bike that just my 2 cents

That tube would actually be the vent tube for the power valve. If you let it idle and put your hand under it and wind the bike up a lil bit, you will actually feel little poofs of air coming out of it. A lil oil coming out of it is going to be normal. Nice bike by the way.

Thanks for the help and suggestions everyone, If that is just an overflow tube like I thought, then I have nothing to worry about.

Correct, it just gets rid of the excess oil in the powervalve assembly, it could probably stand to be rejetted

Is that an 05 or an 06, either way they came from the factory with the airscrew at 1 turn out/a 50 pilot jet the N3EJ needle in the 2nd clip and a 178 main, the are on the rich sidedepending on what kind of riding your doing

buy good oil and get the lowest ratio you can. 50:1 is great with bel-ray MC-1. Oil burns hotter than gas, and you can OVER oil and stick a ring. FLAME HERE! but its true, seen several cases of over oiling a new top end and stick the new ring right away. Good oil is worth it in pre-mix!
