We staged just off I-80 in Verdi near the Truckee river.

Posted Image

We had a group of seven.

Posted Image

Who invited the AFM scum? (Hint: SV650, race-winner, yellow team, not Dan.)

Posted Image

Looking south from Peavine toward I-80:

Posted Image

There are a lot of National Forest roads and trails around here.

Posted Image

I worriedly asked if we were in California. I haven't seen trees in years.

Posted Image

Posted Image

No Jeeps! No quadtards! Only motorcycles!

Posted Image

Blocked (sort of) to hinder non-bike access.

Posted Image

The Mild Bunch.

After coming down some really cool trails.

What are these white-bark trees? Aspen?

http://farm4.static....7a03e68_o_d.jpg

Bigger trees that don't drop leaves, just cones and needles.

http://farm4.static....c386b77_o_d.jpg

Why don't the loggers cut like every other tree or leave every fourth tree? Clear cutting sucks.

http://farm4.static....543715b_o_d.jpg

That would a tough trail up in those rocks.

http://farm4.static....71f331c_o_d.jpg

Many roads and trails met at our break spot.

http://farm4.static....44231b1_o_d.jpg

Tagging the trees with navigational aids was unattractive.

I parked my YZ250 next to some ice during the snack break. My ancient Clif bar was too hard to masticate.

Kay wanted some action photos, which are tough with a digital camera delay.

Posted Image

Timed that one well, but I got splattered.

Posted Image

Um, tread lightly and all that.

Posted Image

Mis-timed.

Posted Image

We rode toward the clear-cut hill.

Posted Image

Not everything was singletrack.

Posted Image

Wait, Nevada, are you sure? I would think Ohio or Michigan if you showed me this picture out of the blue and asked me what state it was in. Nevada would be my 49th or 50th pick. Got barkbusters?

Posted Image

Hell yeah we hit that.

Posted Image

This was at another snack break but it is indicative of the trails we rode to get there.

Posted Image

When I say snack break, that's just for me. It's a beer break for the others.

Posted Image

We headed back to Peavine.

http://farm4.static....1104be5_o_d.jpg

The climbs became moderately difficult in places.

http://farm4.static....e38c699_o_d.jpg

A difficult climb (dry and rocky) brought us to the peak of Peavine mountain with 270 degrees of great views.

Looking east toward downtown Reno.

http://farm4.static....aa98baf_o_d.jpg

Looking south toward I-80. Beyond are is the snow-capped peaks of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain.

http://farm4.static....2cb8c09_o_d.jpg

Look west toward California. We were riding in the forested valley, Dog Valley. We did not get fired upon by the man with the private property the forest road goes through.

http://farm4.static....59b2585_o_d.jpg

One of the many "peaks" of Peavine mountain.

http://farm4.static....f8a1caa_o_d.jpg

We just came up this crappy canyon and were going right back down it.

http://farm4.static....1d83a3c_o_d.jpg

Up at the top of the mountain we were just discussing the beheadings in Mexico. Looks like they got one of us.

The Dog Valley area reminded me of racing District 36 races in northern California. Call it Mendo meets Eldo. But it was small and whooped out instead of big and whooped out. It was dry as a bone, which sucked because I was tail end Charlie most of the day. We need more rain in the desert.

I've lived here four years now and this was my first time riding these trails.

Maybe four years from now I'll make it down to the Pine Nuts.

I thought that most of that area had seasonal closure from Nov 15th......

No, but sometimes the snow gets too deep to ride.
