does anyone use the stock air filter

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Ive got a 05 450f and my dad has an 04 250f. Between us we have 2 OEM filters and 2 twin air units. We have just been using the twin air one cos i dont kile the look of the OEM ones. I find that large particals get stuck between the outer and inner foams, cos they are seperated, unlike the twin airs which are glue together. Any opinions on the OEM ones?

Cheers

I bought a UNI for my 2005 after the original and 2nd stock filters fell apart. I like the UNI. It get grass seads stuck in the outer foam but they can't get through the inner foam so.... Its either that or buy a stock filter every other time it needs to be cleaned.

For me it's pine needles. They can be pulled out by hand though. The inner filter hardly see's anything, just the fine dust.

The Uni also has a much better seal on the boot then stock.

I have an '05 and have been using the throw away Ready Filters for almost three years with no problems. I don't have time or want to deal with the mess. They work great and now that they have been sponsoring me for the same tiime, I get them for 5 bucks each. Can't beat that!

I've got no dramas with the stock filter on my 08 450. As a couple of other guys have mentioned, I'll use the stock (and a couple of unis - always have two or three in total to make life easier changing/cleaning filters) until the stitching starts coming apart. Makes life a hell of a lot easier to have a filter or two clean and oiled up ready to go after coming home from a dusty ride. Just replace and go, rather than having to wait for filters to dry etc.

The one thing I have noticed, which wasn't the case with my 426, is that the smaller unifilter seems to get more even coverage of dust. The stocker seems to have dust collect in a few specific areas.

The other thing i like about the uni, due to its smaller size, is its easier to fit without worrying about whether i've knocked any dust/dirt into the airboot.

But apart from that, the stocker seems okay.

I threw out the stockers. They work really well, but I just don't like them.

I use twin-air's and I got some ready racing ones as well.
