This is my first thread, sorry no pictures.I just wanted to share a life changing event(OK,a minor one).I was thinking about getting back into racing,I saw The Four Aces giving away a free entry into their D-37 enduro out in the SoCal desert.I was nervous, but I did it.(Check out that thread for rider feedback)What a blast. There is nothing like following ribbon out in the desert!I got to explore terrain I've never seen. The guys in the desert clubs are very inviting, they're actually looking for fools like us.I'm hooked! Now I'm a trail rider/racer.Thank You Four Aces.I know times are tough right now,but if you can swing it,give it a shot. The term "On Any Sunday"will take on a whole new meaning! And by supporting the AMA,and your district,we are helping to keep our deserts open.

Looks like Steve has the bug. I will agree that it is more fun than just trail riding, or should I say different. I like the fact it's just you, your bike, and the course. There's no waiting for your buddies or looking back, you just get to focus on an objective, pass people and get passed, ride unknown terrain, and more importantly compete.Posted Image

The first one is always free, after that you pay, and you pay dearly!!! :busted:

Way to go Steve, hook, line & sinker. We need to get some more TTers out there on the ribbon; how about some of you fast guys?

Craig, Paul, Junior... Steve is calling you guys out! You're not going to take that lying down are you :p

How bout Walt & Larry? They trained me for that enduro. They took me places that I would only ride through to get to the terrain that I like. You guys would still be druelling if you saw loop #2 of that thing.Maybe you can bribe the guy who layed out that loop to take you on a ride.I'd definately join you on that one.Go to the district-37 message board to find out who the guilty party is.

Ive actually been thinking of getting into racing for a while now but the only thing stoping me is that I would be in a big financial burden if I got hurt and couldnt work.
besides I have plenty of fun just riding every weekend:ride:

I second that. Why pay all that money to race on all that dangerous terrain when I can go to El Mirage and watch the show on the lake bed.
All you guys are just too crazy for me.:p I'll just stick to the Quad and put the dog on the rear rack and enjoy the sight seeing. Give me fire roads any day!:busted: :smirk:  :ride: :p

I am planning on racing D37 next year. I need a racing buddy so I can split some costs though. Just transport and stuff. Everyone I ask is in the same boat and its all being short on money right now:foul:

I laid out the second loop. I started working on that loop in May. I'm making new singletrack off the stuff you guys basically helped me burn in up high before check H. The plan is to create a network of singletrack way up in that mountain range so the play riders and the ATV/UTV people don't get to it and ruin it.

That entire mountaintop can basically become a "graceland" of desert singletrack.

I'll take anybody up there and show them around as long as they promise not to take quads/UTVs on the singletrack.

Yup. Only in a race.

I remember going WOT up a hill with dust so thick I couldn't see past my front fender.

I'd love to check it out. I've only been out to Johnson "play riding" once, and that was with the guys that introduced me to D37. Love to do something late 08 / early 09 if you're available to play tour guide :ride:

Ditto that! Its great riding the unknown, just follow the ribbon, and keep your momentum going. Having an "A" rider map out a technical course for you is worth the small fee imho. Plus there are plenty of people on the same course with you in case something happens, they got your back. I'm still feeling the good burn today. If you have never done a desert race, you need to sign up and give it a try, you wont regret it.

Is the "gooood stuff" fast? That may be enough to get me off the fence and out to the cause. I'm done racing but you wouldn't know it sometimes.

Yes it's fast, rocky, rocky, fast, rocky....did I mention there's rocks.lol
It has everything, so come out, I think you and I would have some fun. I'm sure you know the dates, I'll be going out Sat for the whole day. Lots of festivities that night too. There will be ribboned courses, and one being from our race, which is a Euro course and I think it was 13 miles.

Count me in. Now that I'm done and over with DH racing I can put those travel/race costs towards desert (same entry fees for hours of pinning vs. a <5 race against the clock hmmmmm).

Are there any particular ones coming up this winter sometime that would be a good first race?

Jackrabbits hare & hound in January is a good one, it's 70-85 miles with two different loops, the second being harder.

Not sure if I'll be out that weekend, but if I am I'll be sure to "hunt you down" :D

So looking into all this, I have to join a club right?

I am looking to mostly just ride/race, but have no problem with working a race here and there. Monthly meetings I just don't have time for since I have a toddler. Anyone suggest a good club that doesn't require my left nut to join

SO what do the majority ride in these races? 2 smokers or small bores? I love my KaTooM but she is a beast, so I am thinking my 06 YZ450 would be the better choice of course. I was fixing to sell it and the wife is going to strangle me when she finds out I am about to dedicate it to racing:lol: With the used bike market the way it is I would rather just keep it and race it though

I'm new to this, but I did see alot of 2-strokes out there, gotta love the smell of that burning oil.The yamahas are popular out there.Go to the d-37 sight and check out all the clubs.Sounds like the 4-aces do their meetings online, and out in the desert.Guest pit with various clubs, then make a choice.
