The road ends on the 138 near Silverwood. It does not link to anything else trail wise that I know of. I have staged there quite a few times. There is a trail that traverses the fire road that is pretty cool (similar to the trail off of the dam). If you do not have a plate I would just stage at the dam. IMO it is worth the drive.

I have staged at Cleghorn and had no problems. After doing so, I was told that trucks are broken into there on a regular basis. It seems that low lifes prey on that spot because they can see people coming for miles, smash a window and grab some loot, and be gone on the freeway in seconds. It is worth the little extra drive, to go to the Summitt Flats staging area. A more spacious area, with a tilt up crapper, and less chance of having a broken window.

Agree on staging somewhere else. There are two fire roads that parallel each other...Cleghorn OHV trail and 2n47. From 2n47 you can drop off west, oick up the railroad easement for a bit, and end up at Baldy Mesa (or stage at Baldy Mesa and pick up 2n47 or Cleghorn). At the east end of Cleghorn, you can pick up 2n59 which will take you to Burnt Mill Trail, Dart Canyon, Pilot Rock Truck Trail and on to 2n17x from the other direction or on to Arrowhead and Big Bear. You can make some nice 200 mile loops starting there if you are so inclined.

Cleghorn has lots or blind corners too. It seems to attract the boneheads that think they are the only Bike, quad, Rhino or Z-71 Chevy pickup out there so they go flying around the blind corners w/o a care.

In July and again in October, we did the Summitt staging area to Lake Arrowhead trip and seemed to run into 'way more traffic in the form of quads and other similar types including parades of 4x4's and Jeeps on 2N47 between the staging area and 138 at the Silverwood campground. And, yeah, they were riding like you described.

Hey Birdy426, a friendly ranger stopped to talk to us at the Summitt staging area in Oct, and she described a whole series of roads she likes to ride up Lytle Creek. The roads she described go back and forth along the ridges from near the start of LC to the east of the paved road) to somewhere near Wrightwood as best I could tell. What are these like?
