Does anyone have some good pictures of the Superstition area they can post? I've been wanting to go there so knowing what it's like will help me decide if the 4-5 hour drive from Santa Clarita is worth it.

I know this is not a car site but how fun do you think it would be for me to give my 5 and 1600 cars a workout?

Wow, that place looks like a dry lakebead with a couple humps in the middle. Is there more to it?

Is that where we were that time we came out to see the race?

We didn't really even touch all it has to offer, come on back down and make a full 100 mile day of it:thumbsup: :ride: Quite the variety that you guys never saw around the mountain

Thanks for the pics. Based on your comments, there's much more than the one range of mountains? I'm sure rides to Plaster City are common but what about Ocotillo Wells? Can cars or bikes get to there?

We're considering New Year's down there but I've been to Ocotillo and I wasn't impressed. Sure looks flat.

You can ride to O/W bikes or trucks off road. Not sure about a car unless your talking a rail.I think it's about 25 miles depending where you are at in superstition to O/W.From O/w you can ride all the way down into the salton see area and of course over to s22 or the other side of O/W.Theres really alot of riding to do out there and not so flat.If O/w didn't impress you might have the same feelings at Superstition

I like the look of the camping area in the second picture better than the others. What part of Superstition is that?

Thats at the east end off Emler Rd. The thing I like about Superstition is you can ride south towards Plaster City, Octillo(gas) and Painted Gorge or north to Octillo Wells(gas) and Salton Sea and every thing in between.

Lots of teams go out to Plaster City (just west of Superstition) to test because there are so few people out there. The New Years dash race on Dec. 31 draws a big crowd and a large field.

There really is a lot of good exploring between all of these areas. Personally, I like staging at Plaster City as it's closest to me (San Diego) and it is usually deserted for the most part unless a race weekend. It's 10 or so miles to Superstition, which can be done much faster on bike than driving the side roads to stage out there. From Plaster City to O. Wells is roughly 40 miles. As Rory said, gas is available in Ocotillo, Ocotillo Wells, and I think there is supposed to be a new station in Salton City, but would need to verify that. Food/supplies are available at all three. I always crack up that people talk about blow sand hill as some reason to go to Ocotillo Wells. The reality is that there is about 100 times more sand dune area at Superstition if you're into that kind of thing. Between Superstition and O. Wells, there are enough washes to explore out there to make you dizzy. But yes, the majority of the area is flat with a few exceptions.

I'm hoping to do a nice long loop in early December circumnavigating the whole thing if anyone is interested. Plaster City-Superstition-O. Wells-Truckhaven-Salton Sea and back About 120-130 miles or so if anyone is game. Will have some stops, but will keep to a decent pace to get it all in.

That sounds fun. How about a LATE December "long loop"?

Maybe I need a better guide down there next time to find the good stuff. Seems like I covered O/W in a few hours when I was there. I wanted the mountains adjacent but there were No No signs everywhere.
