I know this was brought up a while back when the routes were re-opened...

WHen I first read this I thought the new "permits" were just for the newly reopened trails... WRONG!!!

If you want to ride anywhere in the whole Fremont/Rand area (yes kiddies this means a permit required to tride into Randsburg) you will now have to PAY YET ANOTHER FEE to just ride in the desert.

Read this carefully.. Permits.... fees.... tests.. This is just the beginning, soon look for this at ANY limited use area.

http://www.blm.gov/c...rmits_Prog.html

How can they make these policies without any public input or vote?? The BLM just makes new laws to suit them whenever they please?? Somebody please help me understand this.

And to think, all the newly collected fees are just going to be used to fund yet ANOTHER layer of Bullshit brought to you by your not so friendly BUREAU OF LAND MIS-MANAGEMENT.

They have to eventually charge a fee, to pay for the free program. Then have your fees go to enforcement of said program, resulting in more fees.

I can never understand why the shop owners in Randsburg would not protest any legislations that would hamper customers coming to thier business.

Someday I will be able to tell stories to my kids about how we used to be able to ride motorcycles in the dirt and make fires in the ground. And spend days at a time just riding and not worrying about getting a ticket or arrested for having fun.

Accoring to FOJ you can still go to Randsburg. The Permit is for Rand areas that were closed and now re-opend.

WRONG!!

The signs are up, the program covers the ENTIRE Rand/Fremont managemant area.

I too thought the permit was for just the newly reopened trails, you now have to have a permit to ride ANYWHERE within the area. The signs are up.

So for a family that wants to camp at cal city, you will now pay green sticker fee, cal cityfee, and now BLM fee, at least you will get something from paying the cal city fee, the BLM fee to total bullshit.

This is just off the top of my head, but...

Border on the north of Garlock road.

Border on the west of HWY 14

Border to the south is Cal City limit.

Border to the east HWY 395

Based on the map I found, it looks like you can still gain access to Johannesburg and Randsburg if you come in from the Cuddyback Drylake side of 395 or from the Pinnacles / Sand Hills side of 395 and are not required to have the permit.

You can get into J-burg from any direction, You MIGHT have a loophole with the back door way (from the cal Shitty side) into rand, I doubt it though.

Yeah, the 2 places I usually camp are either Charlies Place off of Trona or East of 395 off of Freemont Peak road. Based on the map, if I take the usual routes to Johannesburg then on to Randsburg for lunch it appears that I would not need a permit. I don't take R10, I stay East of 395 until right before Johannesburg. Going from J-Berg to Randsburg I get on R10 but based on the map, that section isn't in the RMAA.

Of course, this is probably all up to interpretation from the Man:banghead:

My take on this is that the West Rands which have been behind a fence all these years are being opened so you can enjoy 2 truck wide trails. The permit thing is for just this area. Later when they find how much it costs to follow you around to make sure you cant enjoy all the cool trails they will set a fee. Now I haven't seen these signs or where there at. But the whole Fremont valley under WEMO will be a tortoise management area ,but you will be able to ride on signed trails as now. So go learn about the tortoise, get your permit and go ride them 1 time because it wont be worth the trip the next time.

If you are camping out in cal city and you need a permit ,this is the way I read it ,you need to go to jawbone ,ridgecrest, or moreno valley to get this permit that is if you don't know a damn thing about the permit being required.
plus there are ony 2 new/old routes that will be open at the present time r5-r50. does this mea offroaders will be allowed on the drylake since r5 goes to the drylake.my apologies for the long rant

The signs I saw are on the Opposite end of the valley (to the east) of where the re-opened trails are.

This whole thing REEKS of a big ass ramming.... hey everybody ... look, re-opened trails (and the band begins to play)...... oh..... BTW were going to be bending you over even harder now....

This is just the tip of the iceburg, BLM getting a foot in the door. 2 years from now due to (fill in the blank) the area size will be increased. A decade from now, free riding the desert will be a memory, replaced with a Disneyland ride style of off roading. Stay on the designated trail, no faster than 25 MPH, wear red reflective clothing, riding only between 7am & 4pm..............
