Guys, I've posted here a good while back about the DRZ but now I'm at it again thinking of possibly buying one.
Since it's been so long, I would like to ask some basic questions again but also a few other questions.

First, which is the DRZ model that has electric start? I have GOT to have electric start.

Second, I will mostly ride on road but want to be able to ride OFF road.

Third, I'm even fatter than what I was when I was here before and although I NEED to and want to lose weight, let's not bet on it. I'm 320 right now.

With that in mind, would I be better off with something like the Husky TE610 or what?

I have NO problems handling the power and although I'm not a good rider, power doesn't scare me and I had a 1985 CR500R which by the way was street legal :)

RELIABILITY and easy to start are important and so is service I guess but then, this depends on how much service it needs. I really don't want to tinker with it myself as I'm too lazy these days and too damn stupid to do it.

Also, now much is the Husky?

THanks guys

George

just buy the "S" that comes street leagel

all DRZ 400 are set up for a 180lbs gider so you will need stiffer springs installed this can be done for under $500

I tip the scales at ofer 350lbs nd ride 100% street on my SM with the stock springs but if I was to try jumping it springs would be needed

I saw a guy at a rally in Ohio last year who was at LEAST 400 Lbs riding a DRZ. When he sat down, the rear fender was almost touching the tire. The course was a little rough and I was amazed to see the bike in one piece at the end of the day:crazy:

I'm 235 and went to a 6KG rear spring and .47 up front with 15wt oil. worked pretty well even off road and some limited air time. The rear spring wes $110 and I had the forks done for around $200

Thanks guys. So, what about the Husky?

Is this the one I need?
http://www.suzukicyc...ection=OVERVIEW

Also, what about prices? Cheaper to get an older model and what's the difference and so on? Any problems with these if you run them frequently?

As for me jumping, I don't see that happening. I ride like a pansy.

Also, I just looked on ebay and they have a few E models, what's the difference?

What about the DR650SE, what's the deal with that one?

Thanks

George

Which rally did you see me at? LOL

My all time high was 389 and I had my suspension resprung and revalved for 385. I have had ZERO problems with my suspension or my Zed in general.

I am down to about 335 now and it works even better. Its a little stiff but I like that for the street.

ALL DRZ models except the K (Kicker) have electric start and they haven't made those in a couple of years. The E model 2007 and older was the best for off road as it had higher compression, a better carb, Better pipe, different gearing and a few other niceties. The S had all the street gear like signals mirrors horn etc but had a strangled exhaust, bummer carb but had speedo and some other goodies. Newer E's had these. Mostly only K's got just an odo, it was a true off road machine.

Guys like to find 2002 and newer S's because of added adjustability on the shocks. All E's had the better suspension from what I have read. You can buy all the lighting and etc from Suzuki (S model stuff guys have taken off) or get LED from places like Wheeling supply and just get actuators from TT OEM store.

If you are a big guy I would highly recommend suspension mods, makes it much safer and more fun if you ride 95% street or more.

I got an S because I saw a couple of conversions from places like Baja Designs and that stuff was junk. I wanted it street legal out of the box. I rode it like that for a year and did the suspension and SM wheels over the winter. I'm glad I did. It is the most fun bike I have ever ridden. Most of my buddies like it too. I hardly ever ride off road but I have s set of dirt wheels. When I het below 300 I will probably do it more.

Check my garage out and PM me if you have questions.

Hiya fellow chunky boy :)

So, I saw somewhere that the E isn't offered on Suzys site any longer. What exactly do I need to do to it other than horn and mirrors and stuff and does that mean I would have to buy buttons for the horn and all that?

Man, I could do this when I was younger but I'm too damn stupid to do it now :(

Also just found the Husaberg FE570. Sweet looking bike. I'm just saying..

if you get a "S" all you need is a better exhoust, carb, cams , and one little gasket to make it have 40HP ( this turns it into a "E" ) but it is street leagel out of the box

Eddie can make eaney DRZ400 into a 470cc HP monster this will blow the 570's amd 610's out of the water if your looking for power

Cool Dr Evil. Tell me, who is Eddie and what kind of money are you talking to make a monster? How is the reliability and how much for the exhaust, carb and cams?

Thanks

If you have an E and want to make it street legal in your state you have to check wth the Bureau of motor vehicles. In OH you need DOT tires, Signals f/r, Tail/Brake light, Headlight, mirrors, horn, and a partridge in a pear tree. You can take it to your dealer and he fills out an affidavit that is legal and you take that to BMV with title.

Dunno what you tarheels need to do..

Isn't the Partridge a fairly dry bird? Do you think they'll let me do a big chicken instead?

Bikeless with over 1700 posts? How the heck do you do that?

Hope you get one soon. I just got back from a ride and there is nothing in the world like riding. Stress free with no troubles on the mind. Total Zen.

No friggin' money that's how.

I've got money coming but it's in a F'ing lawsuit and it's been going on three years now. The lawyer is slow as shit, I'm NOT what you would call a lucky guy and this and that, well, here's the result :(

Hopefully in the next month or so because if not, I'll be homeless too 'cause the sheriff was just here the other day and taped the eviction notice on my front door :(
