Stubborn fork cap

Went to install heavier fork springs on '03 DRZ......thought it would be an easy project.........17mm cap WILL NOT release!!!

Anyone done this and ideas???

Loosen the top pinch bolts on the triple clamp.
The bolts are compressing the fork tube around the cap.
