going to be moving back to CA and there is a lot of work for me around the palmdale area. just trying to find out some info on the area, like how much the green sticker law is inforced around there and what ever else you guys can tell me. i ride a 03 200exc, mostly ride trails, tracks every now and sand dunes once or twice a year but i take my quad (86 suzuki 250) to the dunes.

I live in Palmtucky... I ride a green stickered H230 dual sport, so I go pretty much anywhere without a problem... stay away from the area west of Ave L and 90th west, its patrolled by cops on dirt bikes... and try to stay away from the mtns/open area south of Ave D (138), again its patrolled by cops on dirt bikes... we go every now and again, haven't had any issues, but its not one of those places you want to ride all the time (your chances for getting caught increase greatly)... I ride mostly on the power line roads in the San Gabriels between Bouquet Canyon, San Francisquito Canyon, Lake Hughes, and Lake Castaic (there's so much to explore in the San Gabriels). Occassionaly I will cross over to the other side of the 14 and ride in those mtns as well. Rower Flats is still closed because of the fire from last year, many of us are hoping it will reopen soon, Rower Flats is such a HUGE area, its a shame its still closed... we ride up in Rosemond and Mojave every now and again, and we ride up at Dove Springs/Jawbone almost every month... lots of riders in Palmtucky... some of my friends race at LARC and the tracks up by the fairgrounds. I can't help you with the quad... I only ride two wheels =) I hope this helps...

I just remembered... a couple other places... Kennedy Meadows and Lake Isabella... very awesome areas... love riding on the dirt... I heard of a riding area called Wagon Wheel (I haven't been there yet, friends have been there). I haven't been to Cal City yet... They are charging $15/rider at El Mirage (just park outside and ride into El Mirage, its total bogus, we haven't gone there yet, probably won't cause they charge now, good to keep the dumb riders away, but its a pain for those who think its a rip off)... They charge $5/car at Gorman/Hungry Valley, don't go there on the weekends... weekdays are safer. I am sure I can think of other places we go...

The LAST time I rode near palmdale I was busted. Ensued in a chase (unbeknownst to us until we were caught) with a 4X4 and chopper. It could have been easily avoided as the 4X4 cop saw us approaching, but he decided instead it would be more fun to chase us than warn us that we were heading somewhere off limits. As the screaming continued, he threatened to throw all of us (including my underage) son in jail for trespassing and evading arrest. :bonk: :bonk: Gives you an idea of what they like to do out there. I'll never ride there again. Too much stuff that's much better riding not too much further out. I guess if you live there it would be worth seeing where you could ride without getting busted. The area and trails just aren't worth it for me.

i used to ride gorman all the time. i know first hand how crowed it gets. i had a head on once and see many more. i was more looking for the riding areas not the "watch for the cops areas". my brother has been to jawbone and kennedy meadows before and said he liked them both but it was a long drive for him in Oxnard.
besides the riding what is palmdale like. everytime i tell people i might be moving to palmdale i either get a funny look or they ask why. the reason i'm looking at palmdale besides the work is that oxnard is only a hour and a half away and places like anaheim and LA are pretty close. but if it's as bad as some people are making it seem maybe i should look further south. hay, you never know i could move next to curt caseli and be his riding buddy

palmdale is not all that bad, just check your neighborhood before you move, lots of gangbangers were moved out there in the late '80's so there are some OG's there, lots of stuff nearby.....good jobs and fairly cheap living for SoCal

They call it "Pompton" for a reason!

Really, the riding near here is pretty good. An hour to an hour and a half from Gorman, Jawbone, Dove Springs, Stoddard Wells, Callico, Lucerne Valley or the Arrowhead/Big Bear area. A little further from Kennedy Meadows, Ridgecrest, and Bishop/Mammoth. Decent weather year around (if you don't mind wind), and if you ave a plate, you can ride just about anywhere.

You do have to put up with liberal politics, though...

Im in Pompton....Never been popped yet, although had some nut-job once stop me and a buddy on a ride....he stepped out in front of us while riding. I noticed a brick in his hand(!) I said, "I guess you dont want us here?" all he said was "NO" good enough fer me, were outta there. This was a paved (not private road) leading to trails. Otherwise, if you can deal w/all the (on some local trails) trash, running across plywood tweaker shacks, Its not all bad. Wrightwood is nearby too. Real nice up there. Just find a decent neighborhood, the ridings good

Palmdale is a Great central location to many riding areas in So Cal. You may not be able to ride in Palmdale, but you will be close to many great riding areas, ie Mojave, Doves, Jawbone, Gorman via 138, Kennedy Meadows and more. When Rowher Flats opens you can go down south from Palmdale it's only about 30 minutes between PD and SantaClarita (rowher ohv)
