440 kit, no FCR (not the usual question)

What sort of gains would I be looking at if I installed a 440 kit without an FCR, I have a full pipe and the 3x3 mod on the bike.

Suzuki Australia quoted me a pretty penny to replace the piston in my DRZ and by spending a little more I could move onto the big bore kit.

I would not be looking at going the FCR route any time soon.

Has any one done the big bore without the fcr and what were the gains like? Is it worth doing that over a stock setup? A dyno of before and after would be great.

I did a bigbore before updating to fcr.
Good low end gains ,value for money.
Be certain that you do rejet your carb for getting max out of it all

Ps. if your jetting is spot on now, forget the rejet..

was there much of a top end increase or just a heap more torque. I like wheelies and would like to be able to power it up in 3rd :) Currently I clutch it.

loved the big bore without fcr. ran it that way for a summer. big bore, hotcams, 3x3&jet. gave big boost on bottom but also got better on top-bigger bore, shortish stroke engines like to rev. the fcr let it breathe on top and was worth doing for sure, but not needed for 3rd gear wheelies

well I have gone and ordered the cylinder works BB kit. I should have it at some time next week and install whenever I have the free time. Hopefully at some point will go the FCR route as well

Hey Taint, after you get around to installing the kit let us know how you like it. Im thinking of going in the same direction with mine and will just run the stock carb with a JD kit untill i can afford an FCR.

No. The only DRZ's that came fitted with a 39mm FCR are the E models the rest get a 36mm BSR carb. I didnt even think they were fitting FCRs to the new E models anymore either but i could be wrong??

FYI...Got this from Millennium yesterday.

Hi Rob. If we overbore and replate your cylinder, cost is $234.95 and it would take about 7 working days. If you take an exchange cylinder that is already done, we keep your cylinder and send you a big bore kit which includes a cylinder, piston, rings, wrist pin, circlips, and a top end gasket kit. This bb kit cost is $450.00 if we keep your cylinder and $850.00 to purchase outright.
Thank you for your interest in Millennium Technologies cylinder services. Please do not hesitate to give us a call if you have any other specific questions or concerns that we can address for you. We can be reached toll free 888-779-6885 Mon-Fri 8:30a to 5:00p CST. Just ask for either Scott Weisz or myself Kurt. We look forward to helping you, and thanks for choosing Millennium!

Good morning,

Can you please let me know how much a Big bore(94 mm) cylinder for my 07 Suzuki DRZ400sm would cost? If possible, could I have both the buy outright, and cylinder exchange price?

Thank-you,

Rob

I ordered the cylinder works kit from the states, $800AUS delivered. It includes a new barrel, piston, gaskets, etc.

Suzuki quoted my almost $1500 for the athena 440 kit

tell me about it. If I order from the dealer the cycle works like this:

Item produced in states = $x
Local distributer adds shipping and 40% "margin" for his effort
local stealer adds his "margin" for effort

I bought my bike(klx400) with the 440 kit newly installed. stock carb, and basic free mods. i think i've got a 49 the rear and i usally clutch 3rd but can power wheelie it in 3rd with a little work. compared to the 07 klx 250 i had before, this thing is a beast. my buddy has a drz400 and we race all the time... green is just faster i guess. lol:moon:

Sure, but I don't even want to think about what they'd soak you for one.
